Hey all I will make this short for you. First I will tell you a bit about myself. I am a 21 years old woman. Stayed at home from 15 to 19 ish. My crazy childhood and an abusive mother made me lose my mind a bit. At 20 I decided to change myself because I was beyond disgusted. I had no high school diploma, no work experience, no friends...I was... by MissCamilla

I have this crazy thing where the collar part of my shirt absolutely CANNOT touch my neck or i will freak out. So constantly throughout the day i have to hold my shirt away from my neck, so its like i am living my life with one hand. I can take it away for a while if im not really thinking but the second i remember it like completely freaks me out... by sareybarey919

I am sick and tiered of feeling this way and i want to feel apart of something again... just connected to humanity. Does anyone else feel this... by firebolt123

Just recently I've been diagnosed with social phobia, and I've found a new therapist that I'll be seeing tomorrow. Here's to hoping someone will respond to this in the meantime. While it appears that agoraphobia is very distinct from social anxiety disorder (and then throwing a possible generalized anxiety disorder into the mix really screws... by HexNoir

This past year and a half I have experienced more panic attacks than ever in my life. Sure, I experienced them before... But they were more isolated situations, while with general anxiety. However, this past year... It has reversed. Instead of just anxiety with the occasional panic attack, I feel as if I am always on the verge. Many times I have... by nodejesque

Right, I'm on a bit of a rant... I have been agoraphobic for many years (although I can sometimes go out if accompanied) and over time have alienated everyone I know due to them not being there for me. I have absolutely no-one!! Over the years I have also developed a near-phobia of phones, I only get visits from workmen who have to do necessary... by scarecrow66

I was just curious...those of us who may be severe enough that we cannot even hold a job outside the house...how does everyone financially get by? I know quite a few write they can get to work and that's it and back home again, but I know many cannot hold a job. I am one of them. What does everyone do to get by when they cannot hold an outside... by kismet

I am new to any forum, but desperate for help. I have been agoraphobic for many years but am able to go out if accompanied. There's a big problem with that though as I have alienated everyone who knows me because they have no understanding of my illnesses and act like they don't care. Over the years I have also developed a fear of using a phone... by scarecrow66

So I've been suffering with agoraphobia for quite some time. At the moment I am highly restricted in where I can go. I go for walks everyday but all within a somewhat safe distance and retreat as soon as the usual symptoms kick in. I cant go shopping or attend family occasions, or even go to into the city centre. I've had counselling which was... by rebelheart

I used to have a "life", if I can claim that much... I'm not sure. But I left the house, I drove a car to many places, I had a job that I went to, I think I had friends, I had (at least) one family member... But now that all seems so far away. For the past 5 years now, I've been hiding because of things that happened over 15 years ago! Things... by Sway

I didn't realize I had this until I started doing more research on it. I always thought it was normal that I had almost zero interest going outside. It's gotten worse over the past few years. I'm usually okay going outside if I know where I'm going. This means I only go to a couple of places such as my job, school, or grocery store. I refuse to go... by TBH_ZU

Hi guys, I suffered from Agoraphobia for 11 years, it's the usual story, no support, extreme isolation and a near constant battle between depression and massive anxiety. In Feb this year, I managed to beat the damn thing at last, I made a couple of videos the first two are just after the event the very next day I managed to beat it. The third... by T420

I'm not sure if this really counts as agoraphobia, but I read one definition that said "fear of leaving safe place". I am able to leave my room to go to classes, and also to use the bathroom and showers down the hall. Yesterday I was even brave enough to go to the bookstore and pick up my textbook rentals. When I arrived on campus on Thursday,... by rfacklam

I've been struggling with Agoraphobia for a long time now and don't know what to do. It has affected my ability to get into relationships. I'm not the type of person to do casual hookups, or get with someone just to be in a relationship. I'm only 19 and don't expect a relationship I get into now to last forever, but I do want to see some... by Fox_W_Mulder

I won't bore you with my sob story, but I've had severe agoraphobia for the majority of my teens. Now, at almost 20, I have literally nothing - No friends, family, job, education, home or security. At a some points, I couldn't even leave the room I was in for months on end due to the severe agoraphobia. I'm afraid of the rest of my life being... by wild

I've had social anxiety since I can remember. By the time I got to middle school, I was so resistant to going in because of the other kids that I was homeschooled for 3 years. High school I had to go back to public, which I managed through by sticking mostly to myself. A few teachers thought something was up with me because I'd go the whole... by RainyDay

Hello, I'm new here, just registered. A long time (I guess 15 years) ago I accidently stumbled upon a specific documentary following the lives of some people struggling with agoraphobia and a therapist who was dedicated to help them. I only saw half of it and don't remember all the details but central was a guy who was terrified of leaving his... by Mr_Craft

Hi. I just want to rant. I have had SAD for a few years now. I believe that it is now Agoraphobia because I can't leave my house without freaking out. I have tried to conquer my fear by gradually going further and further but, it doesn't help. I am almost 20 and haven't left my house since I graduated. I have lost all my friends because I... by ashmay19

Hi, Iím searching for fellow agoraphobicís to interview and converse with for a book. Suffering from the condition myself, my wish is to find a community that can offer their stories, insights and truth into this very misunderstood condition. I hope together we can shed the stigma and shame and offer a better understanding altogether. Please PM... by aesolskin

I am having a really hard day. I have a meeting with a client later. This is not something I can cancel because I wouldn't be able to find another client I could work for for six months and be certain of getting paid. It was all I could do to make it out of bed and go to the computer. The panic attacks have been pretty severe and so close... by LadyLuck
