Animal Companion

I have a cat whose name is Oscar. He is currently 6 months old. I have to say he is truly a great companion to me. When I"m feeling depressed or having an anxiety attack, its like he knows. He always cuddles me or does something hilarious to make me laugh. To me he is one of my great treasures, and I'm so happy that I adopted him. Do any of you guys have an animal companion that you love?

Nice story about Oscar :)

Animals are what I live for. It's impossible to be sad when they are around me. I am working on a career with horses atm.

My dog Bailey is my best friend. I want to have a lot of different critters someday from llamas to goats to everything in-between. Right now I have one dog. I want a puppy so bad by the end of the yr!

Exactly animals can be your best friend you can tell them anything and they still love you :)

I have a Boxer named Spanky who's great at comforting me. Its pretty difficult for me to stay in a bad mood when he's around. Its fascinating, and I have to admit a bit eerie at times, how much he seems to understand me, but I love him for having that ability.

Lenny my cockatiel is the best friend ever. We are so incredibly close. I talk to her even when she is not there. It's been really good to care for another living thing other than myself. I really feel an association with birds Cockatoos and parrots. Sometimes I think I should have been born a bird.

Absolutely!
I don't know what I'd do without my dog Murphy.
He's my best buddy.

He's getting up there in age though.

He is so handsome! Old dogs are the best. They're mellowed out, loyal, and know the ropes.

My pets have literally been the reason I kept going through very dark moments throughout my life. But Im mad about just about every animal really.

At the moment my pet count is 10, 1 dog, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 axolotls and 3 guinea pigs. I've owned other dogs, cats, birds, and rats (At one point I owned about 21 rats).

My pets are my best friends and I hate that I cant bring my dog with me everywhere coz she really helps my anxiety.

I saw your upload with him and the biscuit-what a sweet doggie.

Yes i have my 10years old husky girl. she's my all. we're together 24/7. But unlike your kitty she doesn't give a **** about my anxiety XD
Everyone says their pets knows when they are feeling anxiety or depressed.
I can't tell if my dog doesn't know, or just don't care. No one cuddles me lol.

You want to know how I got these scars?

Yea I love birds too :)
When I was growing up we had a family pet, a Galah named 'Wally'.
He was so funny... but he loved to sit on our shoulder and give us kisses and cuddles. Ever since then I've loved birds.

Does he bite?
Is he dangerous?
Do you let him out of his cage?
What if he gets out when you are asleep?

(Just curious)

Well Zeus isn't venomous, and he's big enough that I wouldn't let him 'cuddle' me around my neck..

Reptiles are like people, they all have different temperaments.
I was really lucky getting Zeus, he has a fantastic nature. So calm, he has never bitten anyone, or even struck out at anyone.

Yea I let him out of his cage, sometimes I just let him out when its really hot, and he lays across the kitchen bench under the air conditioner vent.
People just walk by right next to him, but he doesn't care. Sometimes I put him on my bed and he climbs all over the posts (i have a large 4 poster bed).
Quite often I'll put him on my bed, he'll slither around (I think he likes the feel of the bed linen) and then I'll hear a 'THUD!', I'll turn around and there he is, lying on the floor looking up at me..I swear he's looking at me thinking 'oops, can you put me back up please?..'
I often put him across my shoulders and walk around the house doing stuff. He sits there and when I go near stuff he'll just reach out for a smell.

No he wont get out, he has a great vivarium.
I had a snake years ago, a 7 ft python that DID get out quite a few times.
He crawled up onto our bed at night and scared the crap outta my then partner lol :giggle:
He got out another time and got outside. I thought he was gone forever. But snakes are territorial, so after 2 days he wanted inside again. I came home to find him curled up in the cats water bowl on the front porch lol.

He hasn't eaten for 3 months, but now spring is here he's getting more active. He'll eat soon and then I'll let him out again :)

I think animals are a great "medicine" for depression... in 2006 it was the lowest i've ever been,, nearly 6 months without basically leaving home.. that is heavy.. i was ready to give up.. but then i got my self a dog which made me stop thinking negatively and get out of the house every day for walks.. so if people can afford a pet i'd recommend it for sure.. this is Ozzy!

I used to have a miniature Schnauzer. He was great. My mom got him for me when I was about 5 and we grew up together. Whenever I felt bad and he noticed, he would come over and sit or lay next to me. Whenever I would be really worried, he would be. Whenever I felt good he would, etc.
