Anyone Black and Ashamed of it?

As you may have guessed from the title of this thread, I am black and shameful of it.

Not really because of the adversity we black people face in the present and what our ancestors faced.

Not even just because of those silly stereotypes(i.e. all black women have big butts and big breasts? And they love getting all that attention from random guys mainly on they asses).

But because black people often place themselves, perhaps indirectly beneath these stupid stereotypes(black guys love to be incarcerated for the worst of crimes for their credentials as a bonefide thug...for example).

Then these black people affect me by making me seem as if I am just that way too(like black women wanting guys to touch them particularly in the buttocks or that all black people, particularly women are sexual deviants.)

Black celebrities make me extremely ill because they ironically make these stereotypes even worse(Nicki Minaj, the worst female rapper of all time, gives out the stereotypical message that all black women straighten their hair out as if ashamed of their natural hair or wear weave/wigs/horse hair full of poisons that can seep into our scalp, she is a sexual tyrant, and she is purely artificial with fake hair, fake eyelashes, fake ***, fake boobs, fake every damn thing....she is an artificial woman, a tin woman, a counterfeit).

Anyone else of African American descent or of color(Latino/Latina, Asian, Caribbean, or of other melanated/color feel my pain on this?

I am, but not so much ashamed of it anymore. I used to be until I realized that theres people/celebrities of pretty much every race that act like they've lost their minds.

I think what gets my goat is when crazy behavior is expected of me. Youtube is a great place to be accused of criminal behavior by random strangers.

Sometimes but then I know it's somethin that shouldnt be viewed that way. When I think about how horrible my life is I do getto the point of wondering if I wasn't black...

 what a sad thread

You once said your... step family I think it was? Used to call you the n word, are you sure that didn't have an effect on how you feel about your race?

In my opinion the only proper reason for being ashamed is if you were a bad person. The rest of reasons are shallow and silly. I am white and could find a load of a/holes to make me feel bad about my race as well.

Im black myself and I found your post interesting.

Its easy to feel sometimes like its your job to represent your race or your actions due to anxiety etc reflects bad on other black people. That sort of thinking is understandable in a way but its not healthy if taken to extreme.

Black people like members of all races, are individuals. Each individual is responsible for their own behavior. Its not the job of anyone person to feel responsible or guility for the behaviour of others.

Also just because you view an action as negative it does not mean that action is bad.But of of course we are all entitled to a view.

Maybe you can learn from the actions of others you perceive to be wrong and try to be the best you you can be.If your woried about being judged by the actions of others then I can relate but its something that will probably cause you pain and needs to be worked on to.There is no point worrying what people you dont know think of you. They play no real part in your life.

Interesting thread!
I'm white so I never thought how hard has to be for a black guy or girl to digest all the stupid things that are said about the race.

People's groups are developed by opposition to other groups. People in my group are the good, people in the other groups are the bad.

I think that we have improved a lot as a group but we have failed in the individual development.

I agree with what has been said before, the important is if you are a good man or a good woman.

What is there to be ashamed of? I am me and my actions represent me and never have I felt that another person's actions should make me question myself. Whatever happened to personal responsibility. If anyone ever judges me based on the behaviors of someone else, you know what that is their problem and to be honest not only is their problem none of my business but I truly don't have time to ruminate on why they look down on me.

I can't comment on this specific issue, but I was a minority in a foreign culture for almost a decade and it does mess with your head in all kinds of ways.

It's not just a simple matter of people telling you it doesn't matter, because it's not just one kind of discrimination that always looks and feels the same, people don't always act in accordance with their beliefs, and ignorant people still take cues from the media (and sometimes from internet trolls). It's like you're constantly repairing and questioning your psychological integrity.

I'm mixed black male and I'm not ashamed of having black genetics but I do have a inferiority complex to black and white males. But then again I have a inferiority complex to anyone or any race doing something I feel like I'm inferior too.

You should never let the actions of a few make you ashamed of your entire race, much less yourself personally. This has gone on over and over throughout history that a small, highly visible or vocal, group will come to shape a stereotypical view of an entire race or religion. Currently, Muslims are being vilified worldwide because of extremists who claim the same faith. You should be proud of your race and look to the many people who are excellent examples of strength, pride and resilience. Be proud of who you are, you have many great things in your history to be happy about!

Na i think alot of what you say is not real, your over thinking it. Sure Nikki Minaj is a horrible musician but there were a a lot of r& b black artists before that sounded 100 times better , like the Shirells, the Shondells and a bunch of 50s and 60s doowop rock. I like Steveie Wonder and the 4 tops. I dont like rap either to be honest
Im actually white and a big fan of classic rock and Avril Lavigne. Jimi Hendrix was black and was a classic rock guitarist.
You also had chuck berry and alot of artists came to gether to make rock n roll, it wasnt only white people because you also had little Anthony and the Imperials.
but i think you should be proud of who you are no matter what, there are good and bad in all races

I like Lauren Hill's first album. she's black. she's on my guilty pleasure playlist but thats just because its not something a dorky white guy would typically listen to.lol....but yeah i dont like the generic image of what black people are often portrayed as. ("gangsta", thug, homie, that kind of stuff) im not really a fan of rap culture or any of that stuff....I dont like how alot of it is overly dumbed down and superficial....I remember one time I heard this song called Drank in my cup and I was like "wtf is this bullsh!t?"

I understand you, but consider that fortunately, people are changing their way to see black race. I mean, at last things are changing. Not so long ago, there were enormous differences in treatment and rights of back people in American society. A thing we should be embarrassed.
Consider those black people who are also model for the young people. There are many brilliant black people who are suscessful and do good things.

Racism is masked, my friend.

You must be referring to the Civil-Rights Era when you say that there "are"(you mean were?) black people who model for young people.

I mean, the Post Civil-Rights Era is full of freaky, pansy, loony, black celebrities and people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson ain't about shit.

We(African Americans) are still slaves.....in ways you obviously do not even realize.

It's true what MotherWoff says. Black race have been always considered as inferior.
I have a black kid in my school and some kids called him black ( with bad intentions). There are people who are *******s.

MotherWoff, don't let the opinions and behaviour of a few make you feel bad.
You have nothing bad.
