Hi! I'm from the north if that's any good! Galway's a bit far from me here, so hope this counts I'm from County Down.

Hi Coral

Co Down - it's nice to get a response!

I have found this forum to be very supportive and helpful in dealing with SA.

Best of luck with your progress!

It kicked in during my late teens - I'm now 33.

I suffered from blushing, low self esteem and acute anxiety in all social situations.

This prevented me from forming lasting relationships with friends and partners.

It prevented from enjoying a balanced and fulfilling social, working and sporting life during my late teens and for much of my 20s.

I have been picking up the pieces in recent years.

I've been getting involved in more sports, I more relaxed at work and I push myself into all social situations I can get into.

This has been made possible by CBT, positive visualisation thinking, regular physical exercise and by the fact that I'm determined in the short time I have left to get as much out of life as possible.

Yeah, blushing is my main prob too - it really hinders me doing anything where I know I'll be the centre of attention, eg, presentations, or even jsut speaking out when I should. I really wanna become a teacher tho & am determined not to let this SP thing beat me! I always put it down to being shy as a child but have only recently come across an article about SPs & thought, huh, that could be me. You're right in not wanting to let it take over your life, that's how i'm feelin about goin into teaching

Are you two still around?

I am from Dublin and have just discovered this forum while working late and checking out my new drugs on the net.

I've had social phobia for about five years (I think - I can remember some intimidating panic inducing incidents from earlier than that but don't know if that was SP or just normal everyday 'Uh-oh, I'm in a tight spot here' reactions).

For the first time since I've put a name on it though I'm feeling very positive and hopeful because I have decided I am going to fix it once and for all.

Hi Iron Girl

I'm still logging on here!

Tell me more about yourself - when it started, how it manifests itself and so on.
