Anyone know of any good movies about/concerning social phobia?

I doubt there are many, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of one. I'm really into films, and one about social phobia might be inspirational to me.

The only one I can think of is The King's Speech, though I'm not sure if it counts as a social phobia movie..

The only reason I went to see that movie was because I thought it would be inspirational. Now I'm wondering if there are any other great movies like that that would help me with my social phobia.

I have seen that documentary before on tv. For some reason I feel that the people on that documentary are losers.. But I'm the same way so I guess I'm a loser? lol

Ghost World... starring Thora Birch & Scarlet Johansson.
It´s not exactly about social phobia per se, but the characters deal with loneliness, boredom, not fitting into a conventional life.
Besides being absolutely hilarious, Ghost World is wise and beautiful.

The genesis of Edward Scissorhands came from a drawing by then teenaged director Tim Burton, which reflected his feelings of isolation and being unable to communicate to people around him in suburban Santa Clarita Valley, California. Burton stated that he was often alone and had trouble retaining friendships. "I get the feeling people just got this urge to want to leave me alone for some reason, I don’t know exactly why". During pre-production of Beetlejuice, Burton hired Caroline Thompson, then a young novelist, to write the Edward Scissorhands screenplay as a spec script. Burton was impressed with her short novel, First Born, which was "about an abortion that came back to life". Burton felt First Born had the same psychological elements he wanted to showcase in Edward Scissorhands. "Every detail was so important to Tim because it was so personal", Thompson remarked. She wrote Scissorhands as a "love poem" to Burton, calling him "the most articulate person I know, but couldn't put a single sentence together".

If you're into vintage black and white movies, 'The Enchanted Cottage' is probably worth a watch. It's actually my favourite movie of all time.

It's about two people who live a secluded life because of how they look. However, in their home, they become beautiful in each other's eyes.

It's such a wonderful film with some great dark moments, counterbalanced with light.

Of more recent times, 'Amelie' is worth a watch too.

:)King's speech was really good movie i like it was also witty and i smiled a lot how he train all of that stuff and get mad on his teacher:_) But in positive way not like i smiled that he can't talk in front of people this was very hard for him. This movie was kinda funny to in some way:rolleyes:

Ooooh, I <3 Amelie. So good. My best friend got me this French promo poster for the movie and had it framed for Christmas. It's hanging behind my door and sometimes when I wake up, it scares the hell out of me. Audrey Tautou's expression freaks me out a little.

My sister recently watched Lars and the Real Girl and recommended that I watch it. She didn't give me too much of the plot, but the main character has some anxiety and social awkwardness.

Muriel's Wedding kinda deals with the main character's anxiety, too. Plus it's hella funny. :)

MelonCollie, your comment on "Afraid of People: A Social Anxiety Disorder" Documentary was such an unpleasant statement to say!

Yes, I tend to speak my mind about things, and often I don't realize that they're unpleasant.

It's another contributor to me being antisocial.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Not about SA really, but Carrey does just an unbelievable-good job of playing someone with anxiety issues. Plus it's a hell of a good movie.

Carrey and Sandler (for Punch Drunk Love) must go through some form of anxiety in real life to be able to pull their parts off so well...

What about Bob - possibly my all time favourite comedy.

Carrie.

Harold and Maud

There are a bunch of movies where the nerdy girl turns out to be beautiful (Sandra Bullok looks good in an evening gown!?!?!? No way.)

Pretty much any super hero movie.
