Autism Spectrum Quotient - self test!

LOL it's just a test mates. I am officially "diagnosed" as having Asperger's and believe me, I went under a large barrage of tests, which included many, MANY physical tests. Total time of all the tests were a whole week, and that was many, many hours.

PS. For all those diagnosed by a psychiatrist, psychologist or therapist by simple guess work and a few basic tests, I'd suggest you get a proper diagnosis by a professional team. I had at least 6 people working with me over the week. with a lot of building up to that stage and a lot of support after (which went down hill oops).

Just because you guys are lacking social skills does not mean you're an aspie!

I wonder how accurate this test is? I have never taken a test like this before so I'm not sure how it is in relation to one that would be given to someone by a professional.

Not very accurate at all. Social phobics will generally answer similar questions in which an aspie would, but that's only because they are very limited.

So as I did it today, I got 32 points. Of course it´s just rough, because with many questions you don´t know what to answer, if definitely, or slightly.. But I think it´s about correct.

50 questions isn't much. Try 900. Best bet if you think you may have Asperger's is get a professional team that deals with diagnosing ASD (autistic spectruc disorders) to take you through the vigorous tests.

i've read about asperger's and have a lot of the issues they have- sensory, routines, stacking etc... i seriously wonder if i am affected by it. it would at least be nice to go through the tests to either find out if i am affected by AS or to rule it out. where did you go to get tested? autism specialists? many people are not diagnosed until adulthood. also females are much less likely than males to have had it detected and diagnosed.

I scored 25 - "above average". My brother and I got sent to see a psychiatrist when we were teens and he decided we were both aspies - we saw it in a letter he sent our mum. I only spent about an hour with him though and was deliberately avoiding eye contact with him (probably one of the things he picked up on) because I just didn't want to be there! Nothing came of it and we didn't get any further information on it or any help. It always seems like the same story in my life - I function well enough most of the time that my problems get overlooked and I don't receive any support, but I don't function well enough to achieve anything or get much enjoyment out of my life. I'm sick of struggling along and feeling like I'll never do the things I want to. I just wish sometimes that I had the guts to go to a doctor and scream and make a fuss and tell them that my life is often an utter nightmare because of the fear and anxiety and depression! I always talk quietly and calmly and hold my emotions in as much as I can and they just give me pills and pat me on the head and tell me to come back in a few weeks for a review... Maybe there really isn't anything they can do though :(

I got 32 :/ I also had a counsellor who told me i definitely didn't have aspergers or high functioning autism, but i still think i do and this test proves it. Still, no need to get bogged down by labels :p

I'm always told that I'm "normal" by my psychiatrist or counsellor. It's very annoying when you know that you're far from normal, and that you've never been normal.

Argamemnon you have to find a real specialist or go to more of them, not rely just on one!

Your score: 30
0 - 10 = low
11 - 22 = average (most women score about 15 and most men score about 17)
23 - 31 = above average
32 - 50 is very high (most people with Asperger Syndrome or high-functioning autism score about 35)
50 is maximum

i dont think tests like these are very reliable, since alot of the questions also appear in other questionnaires about social anxiety, shyness, agoraphobia, depression, etc. one of the reasons may be that these disorders are all related in some way.

27 - I find some of the questions here to be absolutely horrible. I'll point some out:
"I am a good diplomat." - because the average teenager is involved in some sort of serious diplomacy.

"I find it very easy to play games with children that involve pretending. - I find it difficult to play ANY game with children, but oh well, it looks like I'm screwed because the question doesn't care.

"I would rather go to the theatre than a museum." - a black and white question, way too ambiguous. What play? Is it a movie theater? What's at the museum? The answer will be different depending on the information!

All in all, a fairly useless test, I must admit.

26. I'm just weird.

Suddenly every man and his dog thinks he has AS!
If you think you have it, find out from a professional. Forgive me, but I've met too many self-diagnosed attention-seekers to take any of this seriously.

I am not so sure with professionals either.. For example, I was diagnosed with AS by a specialist. Based just on what I told her about myself. She also observed my gestures, eye contact... gave me Rorschach and IQ test (Raven) (which allegedly turned out above average, only it took me extremely long). Although I still think the diagnosis is probably correct, I suspect she was quite a lot professionaly biassed also. Often made generalization out of details I told her (which I later found were not even correct), her medical report was full of gramatic and factual little mistakes. Later her colleague gave me medicines which were nearly killing me but she didn´t seem to take me seriously and still insisted that I take it. Now it seems like a large problem is due because I told in my previous employment that I have it and now everybody is looking at me as a monstrum, I am afraid I may be shut in a madhouse once, the society can be pretty dangerous.
