Avert/Robinul - Tips/Dosage

Hi all,

It seems my HH is gradually getting worse, the warmer months in particular are getting harder. My HH is getting worse on the back and on my face so I've ordered Avert from pharmacy.ca.

I've ordered the 1mg capsules as the pharmacist from pharmacy.ca suggested trying 1mg a day with 2-4mg a day the most usual dosage.

I'm just wondering what works for who and how bad your HH is. For myself, temperatures over 25C and my forehead will get wet and close to dripping with my back getting damp/wet but not seen through my clothes.

What kind of dosage do people take and how often? Is taking 1mg once or twice a day realistic?

Be great to hear from Avert/Robinul users.

I don't like saying much about dosage--would say to try pharmacy.ca's suggestion, as they are the professionals.

When I first got Avert (from them), the advice was "up to 8 mg a day in divided doses".

When I take it (yay for the colder weather), I take 4-6 mg a day.

Still, try with the lowest dose first--we'd all rather take the least amount that works.

I take 2mg avert only once a day, but not everyday. I only take it on special occasions.

Hey, I've been trying to establish a good dose, and was wondering what the maximum amount of mg you can take before it starts to become an over dose? I have 1mg capsules, and so far I've tried 4mg at once with little to no effects. Is this something you have to take everyday for it to start working?

Thanks all for replying, I'll try 1mg a day at least 30 mins before eating and see how that goes. Just waiting on my order now but thankfully we are going through a cool spell atm so a bit lucky.

Btw, pharmacy.ca suggest 8mg maximum a day with no more than 4mg at any one time, with the standard dosage being 2mg-4mg a day.

Thought that might help people with a guideline for Avert/Robinul dosage but it's an individual thing as is HH.

I take 2mg 2x day of Robinul and it's been a miracle for me. started about a year ago and my hands have been very dry. underarms still sweat a little but i can manage that with Odaban. it should be effective after the first 2 or 3 doses. i take one when i wake up in the morning and one around lunch which seems to work well for me. if i miss a dose i definitley feel some sweat coming on so i try not to skip doses. just make sure your getting a quality product, i can't speak to Canadian Pharma. I am in the US and gettin the product in the US

Wait, no one answered my question...is this something you have to take everyday, steadily, to see improvement? I have just been using it for certain times when i feel I will be sweating...

My Derm told me that 2mg 2x day is a pretty standard dose and she made it sound like deviating from that would not help. it started working after 2 doses for me but continued use is necessary.

There's no real buildup of glyco, so no, you don't have to take it each day.

Where I am, we're in a period of cold weather. I still take 4 mg a day if I'm going to be exercising, but go without any on other days.

Not wishing to hijack your thread, but does anyone know how these oral antiperspirants work? It kind of makes me anxious how little information there seems to be on the Internet.

Oh and to answer your question I take about 2-4mg a day depending on the situation. I try to have as many days off the stuff as possible and I'm actually thinking about ordering a lower dosage next time. Possibly the 1 or 1.5mg pills.

The side-effects for me? Well I get dry eyes and a little dehydrated, but I can live with that if it means not being drenched in sweat.

Additionally - and I'd be interested to know if anyone else can relate to this - I get really hot legs as the dosage wears off during the day and then sometimes a mass of compensatory sweat down the back of my legs, as if it's been building up through the day. It's really quite strange how it's just the legs that do that. That's HH for you though...just one big bloody mystery.

They aren't really oral antiperspirants but "anticholinergics". (Fortunately Google knows how to spell it.) I was going to pass on a definition, but one seemed more confusing than the last. The blocking of sweat is a side effect, I believe.

You can explore the various explanations to your heart's content. Quite a lot IS known about them, though doctors mostly seem to just know the dry mouth part.

You should never take Robinul if you were to exercise. I've tried it before and my body basically overheats severely. I feel sweat suppression, but it is bad as my body wants to cool itself.

My question is, what's the max dosage? The most I've ever taken was 2MG. I try to miss weekends.

My exercise isn't that violent. I do overheat, but am careful. Couldn't stand to go back to pouring sweat.

8 mg. a day was what I was told was the maximum dose. Have almost never needed or taken that much.

2mg usually did the trick for me. It would take at least a couple hrs before it kicked in and would last for about 5 hrs before the sweating came back.

I think I took 4 or 6 mg at one time by mistake once, and I got REALLY sick. Not puking or stomach pain kind of sick, just my body stopped producing any kind of fluids in my eyes, throat, nose, and around the brain. These are normal side effects, but this time they were amplified big time. I had such a HUGE headache and my body was overheated, my vision was blurry and it just felt like there was absolutely no fluid moving through my body, which there probably wasn`t. I couldn`t mentally focus and could barely talk. It was bad. I had to leave work and go home sick. I had to drink water constantly to keep the walls of the inside of my throat from sticking to eachother because there was no moisture.

I am convinced that taking Avert or any other anti-secretory on a regular basis will have negative long-term effects on peoples health. I don`t have any evidence to back this up, but I can see the dry eyes and inability to focus your sight, causing vision problems and the headaches causing cognitive issues with the brain.

Avert/Robinul can be good for important social occasions, but I wouldn`t recommend it for daily use. I used it daily for years, but I couldn`t handle the side effects anymore.
Luckily, I have had success with iontophoresis and haven`t taken Avert in probably a year.

I forgot to give an update but it seems taking Avert/Robinul 30mins-1hr before eating is really important for the effectiveness to work. I tried 3mg today, it was about 26C so kind of warm. Took awhile to kick in but it dried me up in most areas. Underarms were almost completely dry, forehead stayed dry and back only sweated a little bit while exercising. Hands also dried up but forget to check the feet. Noticed sweat on the back of my knees but who cares.

Side-effects:dry mouth and dry eyes, a lot better than sweating though.

Question:How long does it take for Avert/Robinul to kick in for other users??

Looks like Avert/Robinul can be the miracle drug HH sufferers are looking for. You just need to trial and error to see what works best for you. ie dosage and when you take it.

So far so good..

I've been on it for about a week and I'm finding it's effects to be an absolute godsend. In fact the results are so good for the first few days I was walking around in a sort of dream world. It felt so bizarre. The only thing I'm having trouble with finding out when to take it and how much to take. I'm experimenting. How long are the effects supposed to last? How long do users here go before it starts to "kick in"? I'm finding it takes between 2-3 hours to start working but seems to last for almost the whole day. On one of the days I took it it seemed to be super effective and I did have the side effects of a dry throat (as well as the desired effect of being bone dry) but strangely I was taking the same amount I'd taken every other day (2mg) Also yesterday the 2mg wasn't quite as effective and I ended up taking another 1mg later in the day which seemed to do the trick. What I've been doing is taking it at 630am, sleeping for an hour then getting breakfast another hour after that (so essentially I'm taking it two hours before eating). Could what I've been eating be having influencing the effect of the drug? Am gonna have to try some other routines to see how they go. Anyone have any advice on what works for them?

I used to add about 2 2mg crushed advert to the water in my iono treatment. I do not recall having any side effects or it improving the treatment as far as dryness goes. I know I did not suffer any side effects. I never took them orally, only used them for iono.
