Avert/Robinul Update

4mg of Avert (same as Robinul) has been fairly consistent lately.
Keeps me very dry including my face and forehead. Very happy about it!!
I'm able to do normal stuff without being all sweaty.

The dry mouth and dry throat sucks tho. This medicine basically stops secretions like sweat and saliva, so my mouth is really dry, my throat is really dry, and even my eyes get dry. The dry eyes make me sleepy and a bit itchy
and I need to sip water quite often to keep my throat from getting bone dry.

I'm still very happy about the Avert stopping the sweat, it's a BIG deal for someone with facial sweating, but I definitely will not be taking this everyday seeing how my eyes throat and mouth get so dry

P.S. Eating something dry like crackers, cookies, etc is almost impossible when I take Avert. Dry throat plus dry food means the food
won't go down no matter how much I chew. lol. I definitely have to keep a water bottle handy for frequent sips

Glad it works for you! I used something similar to Avert for about 3-4 years. Have you tried 2 mg in the morning and then 2 mg in the afternoon? Didn't have much of a problem with dry mouth when taking smaller doses during the day. Didn't help much for the dry eyes, headaches and tiredness though. My problem is hands and feet, and now I am doing Ionto instead which works without any side effects. If my problem were facial sweating I would probably be using Avert-like medication from time to time still though.

Chew gum throughout the day! This increases saliva in your mouth thus improving your dry mouth and also good for your teeth if it's sugar free gum.

A lolly may work as well. Keep your fluids up & you will be able to tolerate the dry throat a lot more better.

Like 'ysh' said, a lower dose more frequently will take the edge of the dry throat but just depends if it minimises the sweat like you need it to.

Glad Avert/Robinul is working for you.

Good luck.

I'm not promoting any brand, but my dental hygienist introduced me to Biotene. It's a whole line of products which help dry mouth: a toothpaste, mouthwash and gel you could carry around.
Bonus: said hygienist has found less plaque in my mouth in my last two checkups.

How do you guys plan your meals when taking Avert/Robinul? You're not supposed to eat anything 3 hours before taking it and also 2 hours after taking it. That's a 5 hour window with no food. So do you just skip breakfast or have a late lunch? If I don't eat anything for more than 4 hours my stomach starts to grumble and that can be embarrassing if you're in class or in a meeting, or a quiet room. I remember once I went to a night class and hadn't eaten anything in more than 3 hours. My stomach grumbled loudly and I got a few awkward looks

Since starting back on Avert this week, I've been taking mine around 6:30am after which i have a smoothie for breakfast (frozen berries, juice, fish oil, whey protein, and Green Vibrance) around 7:30am.

It seems to be working okay, as I have a lunch with solid food around 11:45. I have noticed that 4 mg worked the best. I've taken 2mg the past 2 mornings and still seem to break out into a light sweat once in a while.

Where did you hear that? I take it with or without food. Maybe it takes longer to absorb if you eat it along with food, but that's about it.

Whats up guys, I'm also taking 4mg daily to suppress my hyperhidrosis. However it has only been a 50% improvement for me, not 100% like some people have mentioned they got in terms of dryness.

What I am wanting to ask is that I take 2mg before bed and then 2mg 2hrs before breakfast the following morning to try and keep my dry the whole day.

Do you guys think that it would be better to just take 4mg together 2hrs before breakfast instead of one at night beforehand? My thought process is that the 2mg at night gets it in my system where the 2mg in the morning acts like a booster, but taking 4mg overall might get me better results.

I sometimes wonder about taking glyco at night--partly because I forget it sometimes in the morning.

But that's a lot of hours when who cares if you sweat? I take 4 mg (6 in the absolute worst of the heat and humidity) but one good hour before eating should be OK.
Good luck!

I usually only take 2mg a day but if I was to take 4mg, I'd probably go something like this

6am - 2mg Avert

7 am breakfast

10-10.30 - 2mg Avert

Midday - Lunch

There's no point taking the stuff at night before you go to bed as the effects would wear out before you wake up!

Yeah thanks everyone for the sound advice and input, this forum is honestly a godsend. Don't know who else I would ever be able to talk regarding HH and feeling understood, it's just hard for other people who don't know what its like to be completely understanding but I know it's not their fault. Like my parents, they love me to death and are more than willing to help me out in any way possible but there are still some certain times where I just feel like they don't really know what it can be like sometimes.

Back from that tangent though, 4mg in the morning so far has been excellent. Nearly 100% dry the whole day. It will be interesting to see how the 4mg works when I go back to school tomorrow, when sometimes the AC in one of my classrooms doesn't work or I speak up in class to answer a question, usually my hands start sweating because of the heat or anxiety from putting myself in the spotlight. Just being at home on a sunday and running a couple errands, I've been nearly 100% dry for the last 12 hours which is a new experience for me. I've tried rubbing my hands together hard or washing my hands (getting them wet when they were dry used to open the floodgates for me), and still dry. Don't want to be too optimistic yet though, the last 8 years have ingrained in me that this condition has a knack for blasting through medical treatments outside of surgery.

If I could get 100% dryness regardless of situation because of my Robinul where I don't constantly need to be thinking about my hands/feet/foreheard occasionally....I don't want to be too extreme or anything but I think that I might be happier person. It can be hard to not let HH get to me mentally even when trying to think positively.

Boy, your stomach SHOULD grumble. My instructions (from the pharmacist where Avert is made!) have always been: ONE hour BEFORE eating, OR, TWO hours after eating.

I try to take the Avert as soon as I wake up--easy enough to kill an hour.

Hope this helps!
