Hello everyone, I've been suffering from hyperhidrosis since my late teens (I'm 26 now) and have tried a number of different methods of controlling it over the years including Odban and Driclor (too painful), Botox and even pantiliners (good with a shirt)! I primarily suffer from axillary hyperhidrosis but also feet and hands to a degree.

Now, I'm thinking about buying a Idromed 5 PS and starting a course of iontophoresis at home. I've read on here that it seems to work well for the feet and hands, but has anyone had any success with the underarms? I've had Botox before in my underarms and know it works really well. And to be honest, while it would be nice to have dryer hands and feet, it's not going to be life changing.

So the question is, do I spend £550+ on a Idromed 5 PS to try and treat all three areas, with limited results on the underarms? Or do I just go for another course of Botox (£420), which I know will stop my underarm sweating dead for 8-12 months?

Any advice guys?

I'd give the iontophoresis a shot, but bare in mind that it'll take a bit of commitment cos you'd have to spend half an hour a day on it for the first while at least. I'm using avert to control my hh which is something you might wanna look into too if you can handle bith the cost of the drug and importing it from Canada and the side effects you may get.

definitely give iontop a good try (£550 seems a bit much, have you looked around for a better price?). Remember that the iontop machine is a one off payment and you can also use it for your hands and feet and the botox is only for 6-8 months and that's just for underarms-no brainer really. Good luck

Most I have seen are around the £500+ mark. Remember if he's wanting to use it on his underarms it'll have to be a pulsed current machine which are generally more expensive than the GS machines. Not sure if this price includes the underarm sponges or not

You found Odaban to be too painful? I get a mild itch if I use too much but certainly no pain. And it really only itched when I first tried it. Now there is hardly any side effect. You have to be careful not to spray too much. For me just a small spray or 2 and I'm almost completely dry. I realize everyone's HH is different, but maybe you should consider retrying this before going through all the hassle of underam ionto??

Also there is a deodorant/anti-perspirant called Certain-Dri which you can use in the morning after having used Odaban or some other product overnight. It may provide the extra dose of protection that you need. As for me I just use a regular stick of anti-perspirant each morning (it is like a white powdery one, I don't use gels since I don't think they work well and actually cause me to sweat more)

It would be interesting to see and hear about how well ionto works for underarms. The cheap alternative is the Drionic underarm device, if they still make it.

Does anyone out there have any ionto underarm experience? I know for me when I'm doing ionto for my hands and feet I sometimes get compensatory sweating in the pits.

Thanks for your advice so far guys. I'm still wavering at the moment as nobody has been able to say, yeah I tried iontophoresis and works on the underarms. Or can they? If anyone knows where I can get an Idromed 5 PS cheaper than £550 too I'd be most grateful. I've seen the GS version for around £300, but I'v read for the underarms pulsed is much better? As for the Odaban, maybe I'll give it another shot. Maybe it was only Driclor I tried but that burnt and I'm mean burnt. I was in agony and had to wash it off after an hour or so.

I think that for underarms a pulsed curent device is a must due to the sensitive area you'd be treating. I'd try a number of different types of anti-perspirants, the first one I ever used burnt and itched like hell and I couldn't sleep all night but I tried others and none of them irritate my skin. I don't so much have a problem with my underarms though so I don't use it very often

It worked for me, and is probably the cheapest solution to try. I still use the same bottle I bought 3 years ago. Best ROI out there for your armpits.
