Benzos

Woud it be a good idea to take benzos once or twice a week for years? I know that taking benzos daily for an extended period of time is bad, but what about once or twice a week?

-would it keep working and would it be harmful?

-can you use it together with antidepressants (I don't think so)?

Thanks in advance.

ok, i've used klonopin and various SSRIs for a long time.
benzos are pretty safe.
only side effects, when one uses them everyday for a long time, are diminished effect and memory loss. Also benzos make me depressed and tired so i think it's better to add some stimulant.

I've been takin 1.5-4.5 mg of xanax or klonopin per day for the last 2 1/2 years. Doctor prescribed for panic disorder. No problems here, just a bit of relief. You'd be better off only takin em a few times per week just so you don't have to go through the withdrawals if you come off of them. They're the worst...

Klonopin is much stronger than diazepam. Starting dose for Klonopin is .5 mg while starting dose for diazepam (Valium) is 5-10mg. They're similar when it comes to duration of effects, but Klonopin is much stronger per mg. I prefer Xanax over all benzos. The effects last only 4-5 hrs while Klonopin lasts up to 8 hrs, but I don't mind taking 3 doses per day... I've been prescribed Klonopin, Xanax, Valium, and Ativan. Xanax works best for me.

diazpam and klonopin are best of benzos.
they have a longer half time compared with many other benzos.
klonopin is rather stronger and is great for SP.
Thanks Ehsan.. and everybody else for replying.

If it's only a couple times a week its probably okay. Daily use of benzos can be very dangerous. Most build tolerance quickly and become physically dependant. It was a nightmare for my brother to come off of clonazepam. He needed to lower his dose very gradually over several months to minimize withdrawal effects.
