Can meds make things worse?

Hi im new here but im really struggling with anxiety and the depression that it causes. Sometimes i honestly cant leave the house, cant get out of bed because im so terrified of having to interact with people. Its impossible for me to relax, im figity, ancy, my legs ache and im always exhausted. i dont know how much longer i can keep this up...im a senior in highschool and its a fight to get through each day. The only thing i want to do is sleep, and i cant even sleep most nights. Im worried that medication doesnt help me. Is it possible that medications dont help some people, or is it simply that i havent been on the right one or at the right dosage yet? Ive been on lexapro for about 8 months and abillify for about three, but i just changed from lexapro to cymbalta and i still have hardly felt any change, in fact, ive felt its been harder to relax since ive been on medication. I dont know if the meds are helping or hurting. Anyone have anything to say? I have no idea...

Hi Rachael :)

You seem to have it preety bad. You sound like me in high school. In some cases Sp has a peek, a moment, a few years in life when it's strongest, it may be that moment for you now.

Anyway, about the meds, of course they can have nasty side effects, and if they do, you simply get rid of them. But most of meds do help, more or less.

I saw you have problems sleeping, I had that too but now I'm on Seroquel and it's doing a preety good job sending me to dream land. U should try it, small doseage, I mean 100-200 mg. It deosn't create dependance.

And now for anxiety... :? Can't recommend u anything. This is the theory: there are three groups of meds each of them working diffrently. IMAO, SSRI and benzodiazephines.

SSRI are the first class in fighting SP. If 2 out of 5 meds don't work for you, it is said that you are non-responsive to this class.Benzodiazephines are known to create addiction. They act on the same principle as alcohol. U need more and more to feel the same effect. IMAO has many side effects but does the job for some.

Now you have to try all of them to see what suits you best. I personally didn't found one that works as much as I would want, but it's better with them then without in my case.

You only tried 2 meds and they seem to do more bad than good. Patience is the key here...try as many as u can, it takes time of course.

Good luck

very good question rachael, because it is easy to think that meds take away the problems without side effects.

anti depressant/anxiety drugs work different ways for different people. What works for someone may have a really bad effect on someone else. TBH if you are not happy with how you are, ask your doctor for different options. Discuss a course of action that suits you.

I know anxiety is really tough to live with, and no drugs will irradicate it, but there is help and meds can make it easier.

I also say, 'all I want to do is sleep' I bet it's because its the only release from the anxiety? I have been sleeping well recently and so the days are really daunting when my bed is safe haven from anxiety.

But seriously, if you are more unhappy or anxious on the meds, talk to your doctor, DON'T just pull yourself off! It is not a good idea!

I found Paroxetine made me worse. I seemed to getting more stressed the longer i took them. I then stopped but seemed to get better but more tearful. After this I was put back on to them and again trying. I am hoping that I dont get the stress increase back.
