clonidine hydrochloride

Does any one take Clonidine hydrochlride? it has enabled me to fully control my palmar and feet sweating , clonidine is a direct-acting α2 adrenergic agonist. It suppresses sympathetic outflow by inhibiting the release of adrenaline and noradrenaline .It should be noted that sweating in he palms and feet is partly triggered by adrenaline and noradrenaline receptors where as other body parts are to do with acetylcholine .

Tried it, but didn't work for me. However, I've been on a quite low dosage I think, I didn't really experienced anything that gave me the impression I was taking medication when I was on it. Looking back I've always been prescribed low dosages of certain meds. With propanolol for instance I got prescribed 10mg/day. However, I took up to 80 (only after I found out that much higher dosages were used by other of course, not like an idiot :D) at a time but still didn't notice anything

What kind of dosage do you use and how tall are you?

Hi
Ive been taking 0.150 mcg three times a day and im 6 foot 2, i think its quite low i know because i know they also make 0.20 mcg and 0.30 mcg. Thats odd you didnt feel like you were on medication, i got a dry mouth and it makes me feel very sleepy. But my body seems to be adjusting to this sedation. Thats funny you were using 10mg a day i tried beta blockers but they didnt do anything at all, i took 160mg once lol but that was what it was precribed for anxiety.

@hb72

Yeah, I'm 6"3' myself and I had a much lower dosage than that. I'll have a word with my GP about that...The propanolol was something I got prescribed by an endocrinologist just to check out if it would diminish the hh a bit, but it didn't. Tons of people get it prescribed these days...

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Maybe just another Q though; how severe would you rate your hh, like moist, wet, very wet or dripping? Mine is usually between wet and very wet I would say. With my feet occassionally actually dripping.

Question for you guys about clonidine: when you stopped taking the medication, did your blood pressure dramatically increase? I've read that as a symptom and I'm a little bit reluctant to try it.

Anything bad besides dry mouth and fatigue?

No, but to be honest I was probably on too low a dosage anyway. However, I've taken other medications like moxonidine (in hopes of helping out with hh), this is an Imidazoline receptor blocker intended to lower sympathetic output and they think now that clonidine at least partly is too (I came across this drug while searching after clonidine). Moxonidine is primarily used to lower BP, which was ok since I have a standard fairly high blood pressure of about 150/90 all the time anyway (and I'm 23, don't smoke, no overweight). The standard dosage is 2mg/day, max is 6 a day. I first took 2mg for two weeks and after I took 4 mg for two weeks, including in the morning of the day I had a BP test to check if it was ok...My BP was still 136/84 that time, so really not that much affect at all.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, then.

If you decide to try it out could you keep us posted? I dismissed clonidine after it didn't work for me, but now I found out my doc was giving me a way too low dosage I'm thinking maybe I should go back on it.

I might use this drug for sleep or to help me come down from my Adderall XR in the evening. Is this drug available in Canada? Does anyone know?

I used Clonidine about 4 years ago, but I don't remember the dosage. It was effective, to an extent, and I experienced similar side effects as ditropan. However, I do remember it being a bit easier to tolerate.

Great, thanks for the info. I have another appointment coming up soon, so I'll try to persuade the doc to prescribe it. I'll post an update once I have given it a fair try.

As an FYI to anyone in Toronto - a good dermatologist that is knowledgeable on HH is Dr. Paul Adam, who is at Sherbourne & Bloor. Very fair guy who actually listens and doesn't try to push you out the door after 30 seconds of face time

I have started using Moxonidine today. 0.2 mg. It was a couple of hours since I took it, but I don't feel much at all. A bit disappointing. I just came off Inderal so maybe that still has some effect in raising stress levels when coming of it.

Inderal won't do very much for sweating. If it does, it's only because it prevents your heart from beating hard. A psychological thing. Taking 10 mg Inderal is a waste of time. I took 80 x 2 during a period (160 mg). I would say 40 mg x 2 is minimum if you want some sort of effect but you shouldnt use it if you have a normal blood pressure and low pulse. If you do, try something else.

I'll try Moxonidine for a month or so and then I'll try Clonidine and if non of them are any good for HH/FB I will go back to Inderal which in my opinion has worked best, but far from great.

Seems to me there is no cure for this.

The standard dosage is 2mg/day, max is 6 a day.

The standard is 4 mg a day administered 2 mg twice a day.

I first took 2mg for two weeks and after I took 4 mg for two weeks, including in the morning of the day I had a BP test to check if it was ok...My BP was still 136/84 that time, so really not that much affect at all.

Blood pressure will always be higher when measuered at a clinic. Buy a machine to measure at home. I'm sure it would be lower.

has anyone else tried clonidine for HH?? I have severe compensatory sweat from my hugely regretful ETS surgery 11 years ago which basically took my livelihood away. Ive since stopped even looking for a job because I can no longer stand the comments in the workplace like "are you Hot??" or what happened to your shirt? or even "did you sit in something??" yes even my pants get soaked, it often looks like I had an "accident" ahhh what a wasted life!! anyway enough of my ranting. I hated ditropan and avert, they only postponed the sweating for 2 hours at most and gave me many other horrible side effects too numerable to even mention. so bottomline has anyone tried clonidine with some sort of success? ps my blood pressure is slightly high so im not worried about that. summer is coming to an end thank god. but it will be back next year and the next... etc so unless I find a job where I can sit directly in front of huge powerful air conditioner all day, not to mention I love the outdoors and things like hiking, but guess what? in order to hike even in a non hot/humid place I need to bring like 3 shirts and maybe even extra shorts for a moderate hike for a few hours in which a normal person would barely break a sweat on! im pretty screwed... need help/advice guys... thank you!!

I'm going to try it. I have HH and hypertension. I have always felt somewhat "edgy" and when I was a kid I had problems with ADHD. I have a hypothesis that all my problems are related to one another, and this drug seems to address all those issues. I'm calling the doctor tomorrow to see about getting a prescription for this.

cool nickM good luck. im ready to try it too. Ive seen studies and stuff online where they say clonidine has been used "off label" for both anxiety and for hyperhidrosis so id say if we both have these issues as well as HBP issues then lets go for it and see. lets both try it and we can exchange info about our experiences here. Ill be having a few different Dr apt.s coming up soon. you know whats ironic and funny? like 2 years ago after complaining about my anxiety to a doctor I remember him offering me clonidine for my anxiety and I just kind of blew it off and thought ahhh it probably wont help me so I never took it! and now 2 years later im reading thats its good for HH too! ha i wish he had mentioned that important fact! i would have asked him for several boxes of it!! ok lets see. by the way do you have any experience with probanthine anyone?? I may ask for that too. I have robinul but it gives me too many side effects , strangely they are side effects that i dont see anyone else complain about too, for example everyone says dry mouth ! dry mouth!, but that only happens with ditropan for me, with robinul (avert) which most people say often keeps them from being able to urinate, in my case its the opposite robinul makes me get the urge to urinate with urgency like every half hour!!! its horrible especially if im around people in a car or something, i have to make people stop the car... also i get dark circles under my eyes from robinul, anyone else get that? anyway im hoping maybe probanthine wont do this and also that i may be able to combine probanthine with the clonideine? thanks everyone in advance for any advice on these issues

I have been on 0.1mg twice daily for about 2 weeks now, and I haven't noticed much of a difference at all. I'm 6'0" and 180 lbs. I think I'm on a really low dosage.. especially for my size.
