College dropouts of SPW, how has your life been since?

How has your life been since you dropped out of college? Has it been better or worse? I've been thinking of leaving school due to my anxiety. I'm not sure if it's a wise choice or not.

Hie yer hence from me heath!
I left school due to anxiety as well. Don't know if my life's better or worse for it, really? A wee bit less stress but not much, considering how demanding my family are to live with.

Though, looking back, I do regret dropping out.

I got a degree but my life didn´t change much. Intelligent action remains what changed my life the most.

better i think? but i think that's just because i really didnt want to be in college (parents made me go) and was very depressed at the time. so things have improved drastically since then. not depressed anymore, moved out of parent's house, have an okay job and have things somewhat together. i'm sort of glad i dropped out then, because i wasn't taking it seriously, had very negative feelings about it, and was just not in the right mindset to do well in school

that being said, i am considering going back now that i have a better idea of what i want to do in life, and i actually want to be in college

Over there, is college = university (where you can get a degree), or is it a school (like high school over here)

college and university are often used interchangeably. most people who say college mean the traditional 4 year schools for degrees. i don't really hear anyone saying they're going to university, even if they are going to a university. they call it college usually.

though techniclly, typically actual colleges are cheaper (especially if you live close by), offer more 2-year associates degrees and technical diplomas. a lot of people go there to get their general education requirements out of the way, and then transfer to a 4-year university so they can save money.

So i got a technical diploma, over 2 years full-time, from a polytechnic (now a technical institute). Is that place therefore like a college?

Most people in the United States would probably call that "college." If they wanted to be really clear, they might say "2-year technical college" or "2-year college."

I know that in Europe, people often talk about "going to uni." In Turkey, I had to readjust to hearing the word "kolej" used in reference to a kind of high school.

I dropped out of uni after one day. I worked for a few years in insurance. I was really miserable doing that job, so at 23 I went back and studied mature age, one of the first ever environment studies courses, and went really well in my course. Socially uni was not so great.

My studies have got me a job which I have held for over twenty years, and has put myself in a position to perhaps one day retire into my own company. Being around people has been a painful nightmare all my life.

My uni studies may give me that independence from the majority of people I crave.
