Considering ETS ?

I have been dealing with sweaty hands for 22 years and wanted to get others perspective on ETS surgery because I am considering it. I would like to know others who have gone with the surgery and if it was worth it for them and what are the side effects they experience, if any. I am considering doing my surgery with Dr. Reisfeld from The Center For Hyperhidrosis. Any experience with the ets would be appreciated.

Hey man i would just wait it out for another 2-5 years. The new Miradry for hands is in Clinical study right now. I am a patient of that study. I am thinking within the next few years it would be FDA approved. Hang on man. ETS is risky.

ETS is the last resort. Try other option first, like Antiprespirant, iontophoresis, and so on. Do more research first.

My advice would be don't do it bud. I had ETS over 16 years ago, and I regret it so, so much. Side-effects for me since 2002 include:

- Severe compensatory sweating on my back, stomach, sides, chest and legs. This has a huge impact on life, e.g. I can often only walk for 5 minutes before am sweating profusely all-over.
- Heat intolerance, and my whole body constantly feels overheated, including my face, which leaves me always looking and feeling flushed.
- Lack of emotional feeling (for example unable to cry since the operations, even at funerals)
- Tiredness and severe loss of energy
- Frequently feel dehydrated, no matter how much water I drink
- Headaches
- Burning feeling, especially in the back, but also stomach, chest, legs etc.
- Often feel faint because of heat intolerance, even in mild-cool weather
- Dizziness
- Adding to what I wrote about the compensatory sweating, it makes everyday life extremely embarrassing/difficult. This has led to depression and very low self-esteem, morale and confidence (far worse than pre-surgery)
- Now sweat very little (much less than a ‘normal’ amount) from underarms, face, scalp, forehead and neck. Forehead gets very dry and itchy. Hands and feet are also extremely dry, even after a 60 minute treadmill workout.

I hope this gives a good idea about what can happen after surgery. Please just be careful dude.

I've lived with HH for more than a half a century. I considered ETS at one point. Problem is that it can take several years before for you feel the effects of compensatory sweating. In my case, during the summer months I tend to have more than enough sweating everywhere. My main article of clothing is tasteful blue bathing suit bottoms to help dry the ridiculous butt sweating. I couldn't imagine having to deal with additional compensatory sweating.

Ionto has worked fairly well for my hands over the past 10 years except for a year or so of glitches do to other health issues.

My advice is to hold off on ETS. It's the same as playing a game of Russian Roulette except the bullet might show itself years after you've pulled the trigger.
