Ditropan or avert?

Hello, greetings to all, I am new to the forum.

I have facial hiperohidrosis and wanted to know if ditropan capsules are equal to avert. Similarly reduce sweat?

I just want to take the capsules on special days, is this possible or do I need continuous treatment ???

greetings

"The oxybutynin (ditropan) is an anticholinergic prescription that was used in some cases to reduce excessive sweating. Administered orally, the product passes through blood brain barrier and inhibit cholinergic fibers in other parts of the body"

"Glycopyrrolate (avert) is different from other anticholinergics because it does not cross the blood brain barrier. It is therefore less likely to produce side effects"

And you don't need continuous treatment.

Take it on an empty stomach (after not eating for 2,3 hours)
And you eat 1:30 to 2 hours after, not before...

Avert 2mg (2x1mg) work great for my facial hyperhidrosis, i hope it will work for you too

I tried oxybut but the results were not great and the side effects were hard to deal with. I switched to peractin and that worked very well but i broke out in a rash on my scalp from it so had to stop. I am even happy about that because it would never led me to Benztropine. It works the best and little to no side effects. Not even dry mouth, though its listed. My sweating is mostly from my head and scalp and not only has benztropine acted as a preventitive but it works almost immediately if you are in need for somthing to work right away. I have tried everything Sans surgery and I am a chemist and fortunately my dr listens to me. I even have glyco wipes that really didnt help half because its hard to get on your scalp.

That's good to hear! As someone who has never tried any oral medications for sweating, I was wondering where do you get such medication? From your dermatologist?

A good general practitioner GP or an endochronologist or dematologist. A good psychiatrist is also a great place to end up.....A lot of psychiatrists are familiar with hyperhidrosis since Ssri and Snri antidepressants drugs cause exessive sweating..
My first try would be seeing your regular Doc. GP and bring along something from the internet showing the drugs efficacy for hyperhydrosis. I have some pages copied so if anyone needs some anecdotal case study for the drugs i mentioned, just ask....

Hi,

Great story, I'm glad you have found your answer, that's fantastic :) I'm envious because I'm in that place at the moment when you think "I'm never going to be happy or see the end of this condition", but you have given me hope again. I start oxybutynin this week (hopefully some improvement); I have been told by my dermatologist that in 6 months time I am to return and if that works, great, but if it doesn't I may be moved onto Pro-banthine. I haven't heard about the other 2 drugs you say you have used (periactin [cyproheptadine] or benztropine) being used for HH, so that is great.

Is cyproheptadine and benztropine only used for drug-induced HH, or can they be used for generalised/craniofacial? That is what I suffer from. Also, can you please provide me with the scientific studies, perhaps in a private message? Thank you.

Best of luck,

TLB

They only used cyproheptadine and Benztropine for SSRI and SNRI induced hyperhidrosis. They now are finding that they are Effective by themselves for regular hyperhidrosis.

I would say they are equally effective when it comes to reducing sweat. I find avert a little better though because I experienced less side effects when I take them compared to ditropan. I am interested in trying out benztropine after reading what scort had to say.

Thanks for the replies.
The effect of a capsule avert is for one day or is for more time?

Like so much with HH, "it depends". It wouldn't last for more than a day--otherwise the weather, your amount of perspiration, etc. will affect how long Avert lasts.

I usually take 2-2mg tablets, and that can be good all day. If the weather's cool or my exercise level is low, I might do without.

If it's really hot and/or I'm exercising a fair bit, I may take more. The instructions from my pharmacist are "Up to 8 mg a day in divided doses".

But--check with your doctor, your pharmacist--and yourself.

I've been using Avert for many years--the only side-effect is occasional dry mouth. I feel this med has changed my life
