Do the news make you depressed ?

Yes, it does. I have stopped watching the news almost altogether. It's better to be ignorant than to be worried/distressed.

Yes, it does. I read the paper at work and it just disgusts me every time. But what disgusts me more is if I read the news online and see people's inane and horrible commentary. I think I will stick to the actual physical newspaper instead.

^^^ I agree some people think that they can say some extremely horrible, and grossly inappropriate things anonymously online. ^^^

Watching the news makes me depressed, they never show anything positive, its always m u rders, death, war, the economy and plane crashes and people dying and people using children..its all disgusting, sometimes i feel the world we live in is a rubbish place to live. So much hurt and pain and horrible things go on, I think I'd rather not know. At least with a newspaper if a headline makes you feel uncomfortable you dont have to read it, but after the news sometimes I feel a bit uncomfortable.

Local news does. Its repetitive and boring and im sick of the same news readers day in day out. International news is much better but I always forget to watch it.

I rarely watch the news. It always make me feel sleepy and bored. My family too, they prefer to watch movies because, as you said, there are so many negative things on the news

I'm sick about news about robberies, break in etc.
This morning I heard there was a shooting at a party and someone died, probably a young person. These things just make me feel depressed.

Just imagine: what if the news reporters suddenly said something like,"Its a sunny, wonderful day outside. Everyone in the whole wide world has food to eat, clothes to wear, and shelter. And everyone is happy and satisfied." Then the news ends there.

If the news was like that everyday, I wouldn't mind watching it.

Not really depressed, more like annoyed or just a bit numb to it. A lot of news is totally irrelevant to our lives. And according to the media everything is doom and gloom all the time. Well, it's not. You can just go outside, take a walk in nature. No economic crisis, politics, or wars going on there. Life just goes on there, like it has for millions of years.

On the other hand I also think the news caters to people's deeper needs somehow. Humans need that mental stimulation, to feel shocked about something, to feel connected to the world, or to go into debates with others. Otherwise the news wouldn't have been so succesful all these years. In a strange way, I feel like the human mind needs a bit of drama, just like we like to watch movies, sports and so forth. Noone explicitly says or maybe even realizes it, but I think people actually deep down love to watch things like disasters, wars, celebrities having a breakdown, etc. on the news. We actively seek it out when we switch on the news, I mean, nobody switches it on expecting to hear about little lambs frollicking through the meadows.

I hate the news. I especially hate how they focus on the same thing all the freaking time. It's either a natural disaster, economic crisis and "war on terror". The media just brainwashes everyone into thinking a certain way. We are all impacted and affected by news one way or another. And it certainly isn't in a positive way. Might I add, half of what is brodcasted is fake and they make up excuses for certain decisions taken by political leaders. The media shows what the goverment wants to show. Some crimes aren't even disscussed because certain information about them cannot be revealed. It's all a load of bull. Even things that health professionals say don't make sense at times. It's all based on power and who's got enough of it to brodcast what's in their favor. That is my understanding of things. Of course I am not discriminating against ALL news information leaked or shown...it's just how most news works...that's what society has become....It's kind of sad really.

And I guess we can say that it does depress me, but it angers me more.
I always believed the news when I was younger, but as you get older and read more and are granted access to knowledge you begin to wonder and realize what kind of world we truly live in.

Yes it does. I don't listen anymore. I keep up on current events, just in case I am thrown into a situation involving talk..lol, otherwise, no. Blown out of proportion and depressing...

I read the news and then look at the comments. Regarding certain issues, people express vehement opposition against the state of affairs. I wonder why the politicians are still in power. It seems like they've lost touch with the voices of the masses.
