Do you hate being told to smile

I read that people with a lot of testosterone tend to smile less because they are afraid to be seen as weak.

Also faking is a smile is not somethin I am good at :(

I am not naturally smiley either and get told this from time to time. People at work will ask me if I am okay, and I will laugh and say Yes but I just look like that. It reminds me to take it easy really.

Now, if a stranger were to say this to me I would just ignore them; or if it was a nice old man, I would give him my best smile. I read somewhere someone responding with a "I don't like your face, so why should I smile?" I wish I was gusty enough to try that!

Yeah i totally agree with this despite my profile picture. I dont think its right to tell someone they should just smile and cheer up when they are feeling overwhelmed and stressed with anxiety. I mean it's just because other's don't understand and think you can just be happy and smiling all of a sudden and all those years of social anxiety that has built up and reinforced itself will just go away. I think we should all just be genuine with our emotions. Only smile when you feel like it and when you want to. Otherwise it can make you all the more down when someone pulls a joking miserable face at you and says just smile and then you move your lips emotionlessly to shut them up -_-

but its good to smile of course when there is a happy emotion behind it. And if you choose to smile out of your own choice (not someone telling you to) it can make you feel better and lift your mood. Not always but sometimes it can when its your choice to want to smile not someone elses :)

I was told to smile very recently and I hated it so much because it made me even angrier about why I was mad in the first place.

A few weeks ago my dad put in a order in and I had to go to pick it up and someone walked by as I was sitting at the chair, "Come on smile sweetie, life's not all that bad!" I immediately felt horrible as he said it and I felt completely fine before he even said anything. I hate being told to smile. Even more, I hate fake smiling. Who wants to fake happiness? If I smile, it's real. If I smile just cause someone told me to smile, than it's completely fake.

I always tell them "just because i'm not smiling on the outside doesn't mean i'm not smiling on the inside" and then I move on.

"it's too early, I don't smile before noon." this line usually works for me... if it's after noon, just say 3pm or 5pm or something =P
