Do you view other user on this site as their avatar?

For some reason when I read a post and replies I usually identified the user by their avatar and when they change their avatar to something completely different it's like they changed skin or something lol.

I saw that topic on gamespot and was wondering how people felt about it

A couple of them, the ones with characters or anthropomorphic drawings on their avatars, of course not counting the ones with real pics or who I know how they look like. But I hope that people who haven't seen how I look like doesn't imagine me as my avatar :p

I could just photoshop my face on someone else and basically change skins that way.. ::p: I use images to skim through for specific things sometimes and changes to their avatars can throw me off a bit.

It used to happen to me ALL THE TIME haha

Now I've seen a lot of pics of people so it's easier to know how they look like.

Yeah what Mr Jones said
if I don't know them or I just know them by their post, and they have had the same avatar for awhile, their avatar is like their skin, like you said
But if I get to know them well or they change their avatar often, then no, or I know them as a person who changes their avatar a lot (lol phocas!!) but I also know THEM.

If I've seen a pictures avatar means nothing really anymore except as an interest to the person, but I see the person as the picture of the person not the avatar...

Hehe I hope you don't imagine me as my dog:) and to answer your question yes I do sometimes identify the user by their avatars and when they change the avatar it's a bit confusing.

Lol I do partly see you as your dog. In a very stereotypical dog way, friendly, innocent, trustworthy, caring and loyal hahah funny how avatars do that! I see you more like a person who would love a dog like that though

Yeah, I have. I can think of two members in particular who I find myself identifying by avatars, mainly because when they change them, they've either used the same character or characters from the same series.

Its same for me. But if I haven't seen their pictures I mostly view them as their avatar.

That´s how advertisements work as well, they convey things to your subconscious bypassing your logic...

No, but I do attach a memory of their character built up from reading their posts over time, to their avatar.
So when they change their avatar some of that associated memory of their character/previous posts is then lost.
Although I have recently developed a way to attatch those built up post-memories to their usernames now, for the ones who change the avatars frequently.:)

I get all freaked out when people change their avatar. Like everyone,I have my favorite members and look for them not so much by name as by their avatar.

not actually Fiona Apple
I associate people with their avatars, I don't always "see" the people who are posting when I am reading though, like I'm not imagining a person sitting in front of me talking while I am reading the posts.

Avatars for most people is how I identify them though, I think it reflects something about them too. That's why picking the right avatar is important! If you pick the wrong one everyone may think of you as the wrong gender or something. ::p:
