I can relate hollie. I'm not nervous anymore about having people in my car. i am 26, passed my test at 17 but didn't drive then till i was 19 when i got my first job. for a few years after passing i was nervous and i was worried incase the passenger/s would be judgemental on my driving. I suppose with experience driving becomes second nature just like riding a bike, and probably most people have experienced nervousness when they were rookie drivers but for social phobics the nervousness is much more amplified.

Good for you!

Different people have different effects on me. With my dad I immediately start crunching the gears and making mistakes - simply because has been driving for a long time, it's not like he makes comments or anything. With my brother or my mother, who can drive but only do so rarely, I'm fine.

Thing is, there's an extra small bit you can do after you've passed your test, three lessons with no test. It's about driving in bad conditions, the dark and motorways. But if my dad makes my brain go funny, what's my instructor going to do? I won't be able to get off the driveway!

This is probably a surprising common problem though, and not necessarily anything to do with SA :)

Driving is an aspect of my life that S.A. hasn't really crept into. Normal anxieties still apply, but the driving factor doesn't really add anything extra.

it's alright to stress over it alittle, to keep your driving in check... but it's later when you get too comfortable you can become a bad driver. I have to keep reminding myself of this now i'm use to it, i accidentally swerved over into another lane along a highway because i was too distracted in changing lanes- the road was clear- that scared me enough.

It's probably a good thing to be a little paranoid when driving. I haven't had an accident in 10 years so hooray on that :D While SA doesn't affect my driving, it does affect what I think while I'm driving. Any time that someone pulls up to an intersection and they have to wait because of me, I start getting anxious and feeling bad for just so happening to be in the exact same spot at the exact same time when the odds of that are like 1 in 20,000. Or like if someone's coming the other way and turning left, and waiting for me to get by, then they get a really good look at you as you go by. Sometimes I just want to start mouthing the words "I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW!!!!!!"

And don't even get me started on those guilt-tripping tailgaters. Making you feel guilty for driving slow. Is there any other way to interpret that? 'Cause seriously.
