Drug-like symptoms of anxiety

When I am overcome with anxiety, I tend to feel almost as though I am intoxicated in some way (for the record, I do not take drugs-other than caffeine in my coffee, and rarely drink alcohol). I get light-headed and have trouble concentrating. It makes if very hard to focus. I used to take medication for my anxiety, and one prescription (Klonopin) resulted in similar effects. I felt like I couldn't function while using that medication, which is why I stopped taking it. Does anyone else feel this way? Sometimes I feel very disassociated, almost as though I am having an out-of body experience.

Hello lilmutegirl

I recall having very similar symptoms in case of extreme anxiety.

In a nutshell :
  • Impossibility to concentrate when being directly talked to
  • Being overly self-conscious about my way to walk and talk
  • Getting irritated for no reason
  • Feeling inferior and too afraid to stand up to people that would want to screw me over
  • Being overly serious
  • Avoiding eye contact like the plague
  • Having some strange expression on my face that I couldn't change while in public, as well as staring at blank surfaces

Do you listen to music or practice sports?
This helped me a lot.

Light-headedness is a standard symptom, and having difficulty concentrating is "brain fog", which is also a standard symptom. I think I may have had something like dissociation on one occasion.
