Ever had the feeling someone's talking about you?

I always get that feeling especially if they're in a group and you are walking past and they start getting quiet while watching you go by. I also have a fear that my college professors are talking about me with the faculty. I just know they are because I read somewhere online that they talk about disruptive students, good students, bad students, quiet students, and weird students.

I bet I'm the weird student, but I think my name has gotten around since the faculty is a pretty tightnit group bound with friends and it's a small school. Plus I look like a middle schooler and I am easily recognizable to staff.
Now all those stares are a good reason to get intimidated by. I wonder what they think of me now? Maybe it's best not to know or I would have to switch schools.

But the faculty is very friendly here, I can't really see them saying anything really negative....

Most people think about themselves and dont bother talking about you.

Are you sure, because there has been plenty of incidences where I have been talked about in rumors when I did have friends and was more social.

Not excluding, I did a fair sure myself of talking about "weird" people to fit into a group and I'm not proud of it today.

its not paranoia if its true! yes, i've felt like people talk about me when im not around. and have discovered just like you its true. one time i was buried deep in my covers trying to take a nap and recovering from finals when i heard a girl come in and ask my room mate if i had any weird habits and other dirt. i popped up and scared the little gossip witless. the good news is that everyone gets talked about behind their back. not just us strange folk.

It is true, that most people are self absorbed... Even if they are staring at you, they are probably talking about their own pathetic life... Haha! Well maybe not pathetic, but their own issues...

There are those types of people who do like to gossip, and spread rumors. But in my experience there are not many of those people around.

I think SA makes us think that people are talking about us. Just that whole "fear of being judged" plays havoc in the back of our minds... It makes us more sensitive to people who stare... IMO

Finally, someone else who gets it. Yeah it's pretty sad, that's why I will never talk about people negatively behind their back again because so many do it, very few don't. One time there was this weird guy who stalked me and my friends in summer school, rumor had it that he liked me. He was dirty, had no new shoes plus he'd walk around the outer edge of class by himself during break. It looked like he wanted to talk to me and kept coming over when I was walking near class, then the bell rung and he scurried off.

Also I was friendly with this one girl and she started a rumor that I was a lesbian....I had to defend myself to my friends. So embarrassing, but I was nice to her.

Well said. I also think that having experiences where you found out that people were talking about you behind your back helps to reinforce and strengthen the SA thoughts that everyone is always talking about you behind your back, even if they aren't. I know this first hand because I have been struggling with this particular thing very much lately... and I can't shake it cuz it seems like its true.... but is it? who knows?
