Famous People with Social Anxiety

Straight from Wikipedia....

"During the five years between his albums The Downward Spiral (1994) and The Fragile (1999), Trent Reznor struggled with depression, social anxiety disorder, and the death of his grandmother (who raised him). To deal with these issues, Reznor abused alcohol and other drugs. He eventually became addicted to alcohol and cocaine, though denies rumors he used heroin.[1]"

Emily Dickinson (poet from 1800's) spent most of her life in her bedroom, so she pretty certainly had it.

Ashley Olson did an interview with a morning news show & she talked about how scared & nervous she gets in situations with a lot of people.

I could list more, but they've either already been listed, or will be disputed, so that's it for now.

I find this thread very interesting so I just feel like I should say something. :)
I believe that as actors it is normal to experience performance anxiety, like a specific work situation or stage anxiety, something of that sort. I dont see them having (i want to say normal) social anxiety where as everyday dealings with people on an interpersonal level are difficult. (I heard something about jim carry, hes a nut case you can tell, hell even I can tell)
Now I have heard of some famous athletes that have a hard time with everyday social situations. Chris Kaman an NBA player i believe on the LA clippers right now and also Ricky Williams of the NFL.
(sorry if I regurgitated what might have been already said)
What do you guys think with my view?? anything/anyone to add??

I saw a clip from some awards ceremony about 2 months back and you could totally see it on woody allens face when the cameras were all focused on him in a sea of reporters.

hypnotherapy to cure anxiety!

Has anyone tried this and had any success with it? More specifically, has anyone tried this to cure a twitch/tic? I have a really annoying facial twitch that has caused me grief since childhood and i'd like nothing more than to shake it off once and for all, because it makes me so self conscious and paranoid and, whenever it gets bad, i start to neglect people i usually get on alright with, and hide away in my room. So if anyone has any answers related could you please let me know, thank you!

Re: Famous people with social phobia?

kim bassinger once didnt come out the house for 6 weeks because she wss terrified and cried everyday about it. i think sometimes people wear a very big mask to cover up how the feel, and some people force themselves to live lifes even though they feel like crap every minute of it. I think wel done to her, because its one thing having a problem, its another dealing with it.

Re: They lie

They lie So people like you will identify with them.

Yeus, exactly! Why would a celebrity want to be thought to have SA? Probably for the same reason that people on an anxiety forum would make a thread searching for celebrities with anxiety: Creating common ground.

Of course, the celebrity wouldn't want to have full out SA or anything concrete sounding like that, but general "I was shy, spending forever worrying before dates." It creates common ground with everyone who has ever had an emotion, evAr! It is scarily similar to big name food manufacturers repackaging their produce as "organic". The celebrities are repackaging their image, their brand, as something real and wholesome.

We, on the receiving end, attempt to make celebrities fit into our image. We like celebrities who like what we like (going so far as to invent similarities that don't exist) , and we like the things that our favorite celebrities like... further blurring the line between us and them. In other words, we've bought into their brand.

maybe..
