Glycopyrrolate and Brain Fog

Hey guys, long-time hyperhidrosis sufferer here. I will keep this short and straight to the point. I have been off glyco for about 6 months now, and I stopped taking it because it caused me to have "brain fog". My mental state was clouded, and I didn't seem to see things as clearly both physically and comprehensively. I was worried that the glyco was damaging my brain. At this, I stopped taking it. I immediately felt a little better.

Now that I've been off glyco for a while I'm still experiencing the brain fog. Did the glyco damage my brain? My intellect is of up most importance to me so I'm a little worried. So my question to y'all is does anyone have a similar experience to this? Anyone have some insight?

I've been on glyco for about 2 years. Can you elaborate on "brain fog" a bit? How much glyco were you taking per day? How did you sweating change after stopping?

@blueherron The brain fog feels like I can't think clearly. It's hard to describe. It's a similar feeling to when you stand up too quickly and deep like you might pass out, but much less severe. I just don't feel as sharp mentally. I took about 3 mg per day. For about 3 years.

Gotcha, OK. I can't say that I have noticed that. But I only take 1.5 mg per day. Did it go away after you quite taking? How did your sweating change after stopping?

Sweating went back to the way it was before. The glyco worked great for the first few weeks I used it, but after that it worked about half the time. The brain fog is still here but it comes and goes.

It's possible they're related--unfortunately, there aren't many (any?) studies about the effects of using glyco long-term. However! Glyco is a drug demonstrated to not readily cross the blood-brain barrier (unlike many other pharmaceuticals, including oxybutynin, another drug sometimes prescribed for HH sufferers), which should suggest it to be generally incapable of having much impact at all on the brain.

(I've been on 4mg/day of glyco for 15 years ... I've never been off it long enough to really be able to compare experiences on it vs. off it, but for what an anecdote is worth, I'm pretty sure my brain still works fine! :) I'm a writer, so, like you, maintaining my intellect is a top priority.)

Especially if you're still experiencing the brain fog now that you're off it entirely and have been so for a while, I would look into other factors in your life and see what else might be contributing ... sleep, diet, caffeine usage, other drug or alcohol usage, vitamin/nutrient deficiencies (perhaps you could get a blood panel done to see if you're, for example, iron deficient?), etc could all be having effects, too.

Good luck getting it figured out!
