Going on holiday/vacation alone

I haven't been on holiday for a long time - something like 20+ years  This is obviously due to my SP, plus I've had no one to go with. Anyway I have a bit of money saved up right now (one of the perks of not having a social life! ;)) so am thinking if taking a short trip - probably just a week - next year sometime. I live in the UK, and am thinking of going to New York. I'll still be going alone, and I'm sure once I get there I would have a good time, but there are so many things for someone with SP to deal with; the airport, sitting next to a stranger on the plane for 8+ hrs, and other silly stuff. Even eating would be an issue for me - I hate eating in restaurants alone, I couldn't stay in a hotel for the same reason so it would have to be self-catering. Once I start thinking of all these little things I don't wanna go...even though I do!

Does anyone else - with SP - go away alone? How do you deal with the traveling, or everyday situations?

YEP!!

This is maybe the biggest part of my life. Looking forward to it. Never went alone. With parents, when at school age. Been with friends and their families. A lot of girlfriends. Amazing things happen, including bad health!!

Last holiday was the best ever, in Thailand for a month. I think there's a chance it might be my last. With a 10-year senior friend in 2006. I miss him. Never would have been without him. He got married since. An almighty socialite person, who I don't expect to see again. He gave me a lot of time, while he was recovering from bad times, and has thrived since.

20+ is a long time. I consider doing it alone. That's a tough one!

I am an adventurer. I've coped by myself in foreign places... I've hired a car to go up a mountain in Barcelona to meet friends. I had to change a flat tyre, in the dark, right on the edge of a cliff

I was lost for a place to sleep in Barcelona. I was allowed to stay in a hostel

I never went alone but one of my online friends lives in Austria and he went to NYC/Boston for 3 weeks alone around Christmas, he had tons of fun. Of course, he has no trouble talking to people, so he kept busy with random strangers he met... but he said, at times in the hotel, it got a bit boring alone. Overall good though
I thought of going to London myself someday

this is why i always take staycations...

Honestly, the thought of leaving canada scares the bejesus out of me...it always has and i have no idea why....i could go to another part of canada, some place i havnt been before, even quebec even though my french is terrible, and id still feel fine.....

I dont like being on vacation and being busy, which is why i take staycations. I never tell anyone when im taking my holidays bc then i always get the "hey! you could come here!"......no...i want to be left alone to watch the horror movie marathon for halloween and play video games, plz and thanks :)

I wouldn't go on vacation abroad alone because what if I got robbed, mugged, or something worse happens to me? Being female who's not tall doesn't help. Someone once told me that if you're a woman who had a flat tire at night in the middle of a road in a sparsely-populated area, it's best to hide and call for help than to flag people down for help.

I never went alone abroad, because I haven't money for this, but if I will be have, I will go abroad alone - in Europe. I think, it's will be interesting and not dangerous, where I live there is more dangerous.

I have actually never been abroad, I could have done so with school and work a few times,, but I never done it because I don't feel comfortable with those ppl in the first place,,
And now I can have free flight tickets but I can only take a partner or a child, I can't invite a friend or a family member with me -_-
But then I have decided to move abroad for studies next year,, the feeling is exciting yet really scary tho, I wish I had someone with me.

Alone is the best way to travel ;)

Most people travel alone, so it's easier to meet people in things like hostels and tour-groups.

Just go - step out your comfort zone - travelling abroad can be a very inspirational thing - even just looking out of the plane window - and if you do it and realise that you can do these things it'll do wonders for your sense of confidence. It will refresh your mind too.

I wish I could...

I want to see some friends pretty badly, but even if I had all the money in the world, my fears of public transport, open spaces and getting lost paralyze me.
