Losing weight.

well abs-olutely (hehe) if lifting weights raises your heart rate and keeps it elevated then that is a form of cardio, cardio is anything that lifts your heart rate to 50-75% of its maximum ( depending on age etc)
You've done your homework, it seems, and I bow to your intellect on this subject. But yeah, I think it's just good to do any sort of exercise.

Abs-olutely - I see what you did there. ;)

Its the mfp influence, Ive learnt so much on that site! I dunno anything about bodybuilding though, nothing. About the HR thing though I would hate to see what mine is when Im doing anything I once accidentally touched the monitor on a cross trainer and I got such a fright lol I think my heart was about to explode.

see what I did with the abs-olutely heh you know me so well Mikey :p

Heh, yeah, I try not to touch the monitors of any cardio equipment. I don't really want to know my heart rate. My ribs keep tabs on that for me. :)

Ha my sentiments exactly!!! Spooky Mikey Spooky! I actually had this conversation with someone today!!! They asked me today why I don't have a HRM and I said I do its called chest pain.

Weighed myself today and I lost 0.3kg - down to 84.5kg. The last three weeks have seen me hover around the 84-85 mark and I've been having trouble losing more. It's more my own fault than anything for eating too much crap, but I could also be at a plateau. Frustrating stuff! :veryangry:

I started out this year at my heviest about 260 pounds and I am 5ft 7in. I have dropped almost 30 pounds I am down to 236. I am shooting for at least 200. What I have done to cut down on my weight is I eat alot less in food. I do go over somedays but I try to have a small breakfast and small lunch and a nice size dinner. Its worked out so far. I need to get back onto my work out on the treadmill to help but its a hard habbit to get back into.

You really want frustrating? Try going to an anorexicly thin dietician who tells you to be satisfied with seeing no substantial results.

Mikey and TruffleShuffle, you guys have been doing really well. Losing in general is progress, as long as it's going down. Doesn't matter by how much Mikey as long as you're going that direction right?

Hmm... I'm still gaining. Although, the last 2 days I've been eating more for maintenance or small loss, without overeating. I hope I can keep that up. Even 2 days is meaningful, so much comfort eating in the last 2 months.

That's very true, although I gained 0.8kg last week so I'm not back to the level I had then! But it's only by half a kilo so it's not too much. If I eat okay I'll have it back down next week.

I know how difficult comfort eating is - I did eat a whole pack of cookies at the start of the week - but small steps to rid that is great. Eating for maintenance is a great thing, so keep it up. :)

Ah, yeah, that is quite frustrating! Why would she say that?

Darned if I know. I went in after following the exercise/ diet plan for 3 months and in that time I only lost 2 pounds.:kickingmyself: (I'm sorry, but for me that's the difference between crapping or not!) And of course I was not happy at all. So she says I should be satisfied with those results. Even weight watchers promises 10 pounds in the first month! Sorry stick lady I will not be seeing you again.

Two pounds in 3 months? Hmm, something certainly went wrong there.

I even lost about 6.5kg (14.3lb) in about 5 weeks myself so yeah, the one you were following was not correct! Good on you for realising its error and not seeing Little Miss Anorexic again.

I'm an exercise addict

No sport to play with
Feeling like making it up to me when I was not active in sport enough at school
175cm and in 70s kg currently. My main obsession is to impress my next girlfriend with my body. Last encounter was with someone Malaysian, with incredible legs to put hands on. She said liked my chest! I'd like some boxing.

Earlier this year asked the fitness room advisor lady how to make my spindly arms bigger, while dropping weight, she said start on weights (the downstairs room) before going up the stairs for aerobics. I do 60 mins on treadmills and the same on rowers. The weight and designed by Germans. Most aerobic machines are American. There's always loads to TV to watch on big plasmas screens everywhere

From October there's been a fresh breed of students populating the gym. I love it. Been piling on the pounds a bit. Slight increase on kilos due to all the arm work. Hours of running and rowing doesn't shed enough

I feel like I'm in heaven after every session. :applause:

I highly recommend Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com I can't say enough good about it. If you are serious about losing weight or even if you're trying to gain weight or train, you should definitely take a look and they have an app which is really useful. God I sound like an ad ha but it really works!

Weightloss is a complete numbers game. There's 3500 calories in one pound. To lose one pound you have to burn 3,500 calories. It helps A LOT to have a way of tracking that. That's my fitness pal (mfp)

I always weighed about 135lbs (5'10) until I got sick and got put on a bunch of meds and steroids which saw me gain about 65lbs over a year and a half. A year ago I got off all those meds and set about losing the weight which was really difficult because I was extremely limited in what activity I could do. But I used mfp and that was the difference between me losing and maintaining. I've lost 51lb so far. And I have friends on mfp who've lost 100s. One in particular who weighed about 500lbs starting. She's down in the 300s now.

Anyway check it out Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com

Edit: If anyone wants to add me as a friend on mfp just send me a pm! :)

making very slow progress (I think!?) down to 182 yesterday which is the lowest i've got down to since weighing myself this year. although dropping down to this recently is a bit weird because i've been on a low carb diet before this and a couple of days before I kind of messed up and had a carb relapse lol. I was expecting my weight to go up a bit not down.
I attribute my slow weight loss could be to being on pregabalin. going into it I was re-assured no real side effects reading up on the web I see that one is weight gain.

update: I am back to 85 kg,yes the new years feasting was really bad :giggle:
but I have another dilemma,I am not sure I want to lose weight or just replace the fat with muscle, because lately I have been thinking that would make me look more manly,I get sometimes that I look gay or feminine,I think its more because of my manerism or that I am too nice, but for sure that would make me look more manly.

I've lost weight over the past few months (Jan - present), but I don't diet. Before, I just ate whatever I wanted - two bags of Doritos (1000 cals each!), a pain au chocolat, a chocolate bar, a take-away pizza - yes, I could eat all of that in one day, and nothing else. Proper binging. I never became fat, but I noticed I had become 'podgy' around my face and was constantly bloated. Now, I eat sensibly, watch how many calories I consume (1500 - 2000 is ideal), but I don't deprive myself of the foods I love, I just eat them in lower amounts, and I have a junk day - Saturday, as this is the day I go shopping, and I get paid on Fridays, so it's the perfect chance to just 'let go'. Only one day, two at the most, and it's worked for me. I still manage to have a junk snack every day, such as a packet of crisps, or maybe some chocolate, but nothing excessive. I could never go on a proper diet, they make me feel depressed (more so than usual).

Oh, and I've started exercising again. I actually enjoy breaking a sweat, but I do it in the comfort of my own home as I'm too self-conscious to go to a gym.
