Have people ever told you to relax when you thought you *were* relaxed?

Just wondering how common this is cause it happens to me a lot at work. I have customers and coworkers telling me "It's ok, just relax, everything's fine" and it catches me completely off guard cause I'd be thinking "I AM ok right now"

I think after years and years and years of having SA, I've actually gotten used to being nervous all the time so that now when I'm anxious, I don't pay attention to it...if that even makes sense (cause it still doesn't, to me).

Whenever people tell me to "relax" I become even more nervous. If they act like nothing's wrong, I will be more likely to respond accordingly to the affirmative lack of tension.

yep, same here, if someone tells me to relax i then think its even more noticable, so then it makes me even worse.

I think some of it is used to being anxious so much that for us, the state we are in is relaxed.

Of course when people make note of it then it REALLY makes you non-relaxed.

A good rebuttal would be to say that you are relaxed and in fact they are the ones who are wrong is their assessment of you emotional state.

lol

Thanks! That's what I was trying to say but I couldn't get it into the right words, for some reason.

That's a good rebuttal too, I usually just say something lame like "Sorry, I can't help it" haha.

I'm never 100% relaxed so they would probably be right.

There is only one person in the world I am completely relaxed and myself around and if I'm not with him....then im probably at least a little on edge!

Wow thats a depressing thought! :D

i worked in a lot of hospitality jobs and it happens a lot to me aswell. i think with hospitality its so demanding and with sa you don't really enjoy the interactions with the people and customers as much as "normal people" do. I tend to focus more on the job ahead instead of being hospitable. But thats when im really anxious. ive had "you know your allowed to talk" by a customer once in a playful tone OH GOD!!! I try to stay away from hospitality its tooo stressing. i want to be a Liberian!!!

If someone had said that to me, I think I probably would've been kind of angry about it. That just seems rude, playful tone or not. Maybe it's just me holding grudges from elementary school bullies or something.

I had people telling me I look sad or worried when I wasn´t.. it was just the way I normally am.

lol, a doctor was taking my blood pressure once and my blood pressure was normal but my heart rate was 160 BPM, and he asked me if I was having a panic attack or something, but I was completely calm and fine because it's my normal resting heart rate... I've taken it at home and it's always accelerated even when I'm completely chill.
