Hi,

Like it says in the title, I'm new here - don't know if this thread is in the correct place but thought I should just say hello to every one here.
I'm not really sure what happens here but I felt like I should join because I think I have Social Anxiety Disorder and I'm in despair. I'm 18 years old and I recently started at university. This social anxiety, I think, has always been there but now when everybody is completely new, I feel like I'm really suffering because of it.

I'm going to register with the surgery on campus and then after that I'm going to get an appointment with my doctor. So thought it might be good to be here now that I'm hopefully going to be starting the first steps in overcoming it.

Hello, and welcome! I remember how difficult it was starting college. All the more so because I had no choice but to live in the dorms. Forced socializing--ack!

Surgery? They do surgery for social anxiety now?
Welcome! i am new also - no clue how to do this

Hi karolina. Sorry I missed you in the chatbox. My connection screws up sometimes.

:)!

Haha I have a feeling that most people on here might be American; I think the word surgery used in this way must be a British thing and in this case I'm talking about a medical practice where you can go to see your general practitioner. I think the term 'general practitioner' isn't used in America either... I basically went to see my doctor.
However, surgery for social anxiety would definitely be interesting!

Anyway, thank you all for the warm welcome to the forum!

The medical school at Columbia University is called The College of Physicians and Surgeons, and I recall finding the name very quaint and old fashioned. lol. Anyway, as soon as you said "surgery" I figured it was general medicine.
