How are you feeling?

I believe a person needs some good "magic" every now and again to keep hope going. Some good thing or opportunity that comes easy, just falls in their lap, and really gets them ahead or at least takes their mind off of how crummy their lives are.
Say for every 20 struggles there is one good and easy piece of magic that keeps a person going. I truly believe that average people's lives work like this. They struggle, but they also get good things handed to them. Or at the very least their efforts are rewarded with positive results on a fairly consistent basis.
Then there are those of us that are stuck in this perpetual state of bad luck/no luck. We try and try, and try some more but no magic comes. Nothing changes. Nothing propels us forward. There is no help as we are on our own. We are living like aliens in this world. We are kept alive but never privy to the riches. Life isn't as much about ups and downs as it is about a numbing, slow degradation.
Now I think I will go fix myself a little drank! ;)

I realize now that it may have sounded like I was trivializing your feelings and that wasn't my intent. I really do think that things can get better and not because of magic. I'm not rewarded with positive experiences on a consistent basis, in fact, it's been a tough year for me too. I guess seeing other people feeling hopeless is an unwelcome reminder of my own feelings of hopelessness. Trying to change that stems from a bit of my own selfishness, in a way.

I really do firmly believe that things can get better and I believe that life is far from predictable. I have to because I have a tendency to spiral if I allow myself to dwell on things. I'm sorry if I let my own baggage get in the way and I'm sorry if what I said came across as an empty platitude.

I wasn't ranting at you. I was just ranting. I can appreciate the motive of your post.
This is something I firmly believe, that a person needs to have occasional good things happen from outside themselves or else they will lose hope.
That's not a popular idea these days because we are all supposed to be self sufficient and independent agents but I can tell you this for sure, nobody out there that you see having a good life got there completely on there own. NOBODY!
You can tell a person with no luck/bad luck to exercise, meditate, find God, eat clean, lift weights, join a group, get a hobby, but unless that person gets some good and easy opportunities from outside themselves they will wither.
Does that mean that people should just stop trying? No, but let's call it like it is. Some people get and some don't. That's not sour grapes talking that is just how it is. Sadly, there isn't much help for the "don'ts". Just a bunch of empty platitudes as you say.
It's like giving a starving man a stick of gum when he really needs a full nutritional meal. But the internet doesn't lend itself to that very well.
Well, I'll stop now because I'm really getting buzzed here already...lol...things may get incoherent...

The thing is I agree with you. Inequity is the harsh reality of life. I'm not really one who believes in luck generally, but I also don't really believe in the whole "self-sufficency" thing. Just as you said, you can try as hard as you possibly can, and still fail. I mean, life doesn't give you a pity C because you tried hard. The funny thing is the people who have everything rarely acknowledge the advantages that they inherit.

You could say that I'm "lucky" in some respects: I have a strong support system in my family, I'm doing OK financially, and I feel as though I have a strong future professionally. Maybe that disqualifies me from talking about hope a bit.

I don't know. *shrugs*

I really hope things get better for me, for you, and for everyone else around here. Just try not to do too much damage to your liver--not that I'm one to talk about that either. ;)

I wont deny that. You dont have any kind of support system?

Not really, but I'm wondering how many people on this site actually do.
I define "support system" as a group of people who genuinely care about your success and well-being.
I would guess that many here are either on their own or stuck with people who actually drain their energy.
I all makes a very big difference.

Me too.

Support System? This is an absolutely foreign concept.

Oh right, those are the people who's families/friends help them through life-yes, that must be wonderful, really.

I know these people. They are oblivious usually to how good they have it. I have always been around people who have family support. It is never me. I get some lip service from afar on occasion but there is never any action to back it up. The world would seem very nice with a support system to help out. I got nothing. Just empty promises and energy vampires.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong and that I should be ashamed of. For not being able to live a normal life. It's driving me nuts.

Empty promises and energy vampires - ma family in a nutshell. Though, they'd accuse me of shutting them out. Which is funny because ma eldest sister and mum weren't all that supportive when ah eventually did open up about my anxiety and depression struggles in my mid-teens. :idontknow:

Yes, they say they care but when you are honest with them about how bad things are for you they are incapable of helping in any way. Why bother to be open with them, right?

People are so full of s h i t I just want to be away from everyone of them forever. The human race is pathetic and horrible, self-centered and stupid beyond belief. My only goal is to be far away from humans someday. What a life, huh? Oh well for now I will suffer. Maybe then when I reach my goal it will be that much sweeter for all of the pain?

Well, ah actually wouldnae mind livin' in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish countryside or the scenic hillside. And this coming from a lad who once scoffed at the idea o' livin' in country. But it doesnae seem too bad compared to town/city life. So yer goal actually admirable. Hopefully you'll make it a reality someday, eh? :)

I don't feel as though I'm livin' a normal life, either.

I know I don't either. I'm around "normal" people all the time and even though I wouldn't say their lives are great, they enjoy a certain level of acceptance from society that gets them opportunities and support.

Like my neighbor for instance, one day she decided that she wanted to start a business selling clothing. Fast forward a couple months later and she is now doing fashion shows and hiring models for her clothes. Her business just took off because she had such a large network of friends and family supporting her.

Aye, that's true.

Just shows how a good support system can be a great help to people. It'd be harder to do something similar to what yer neighbor is doing by yerself, with anyone's help.

To my mental issues, can you take a sick day tomorrow? I think I'd like to be happy for a bit. Thanks :kickingmyself:

Fed-up and pissed off.

Fed-up with people always making assumptions about me. Fed-up with huvin to justify everythin' ah say and do. And I'm pissed off with huvin tae answer dumb, obvious question, which in ma mind don't need an answer. :kickingmyself:

Seriously, how f**kin' stupid d'ye huv tae be to take non-verbal communication as me huvin not answered a question? If some doesnae answer a direct question that mean "No", right? Or they couldnae give a shit.

Oh, and this might be a revelation but, with few exceptions ah hate people.

Exhausted mentally and even physically. Just need to take all those things away from life right now that involve anything to do with looks or men, that pressure we have to face. Avoid mirrors and just detach myself for a few days and try to somehow get my thoughts away from how bad I look and all that stuff.
