I rarely ever leave the house for anything...But when I do I do my little shopping or whatever so when I come to the register and standing in line I have no idea how i should stand or even sometimes how to step forward when the line is getting shorter,,,i have no idea of where my arms should be where im suppose to even be looking...But what ive usually done is like read or pretend im reading the item im buying but sometimes im just there standing reading this item and I hear "SIR SIR SIRRR" then I realize there talking to me and say "I CAN GET YOU OVER HERE" and I get sooooo embarrased cause i couldnt hear them and the person literally had to scream.

my anxiety always peaks standing in line at the grocery store, too. it is so awkward and unnatural being in such close proximity to strangers. you never know if someone will try to cut in front of you or aggressively confront you for whatever reason. but yeah, i usually stare at the magazines until i have to dump my stuff on the conveyer belt. i know how you feel totally concious of your body weight, how to stand and shift your weight, while looking casual trying to cover up the fact that your mind and heart are racing with anxiety.

I usually feel like my stomach is sticking out and try to tense it up.. which leads to not being able to talk properly.

Stand in the place where you live
Now face North
Think about direction
Wonder why you haven't before
Now stand in the place where you work
Now face West
Think about the place where you live
Wonder why you haven't before

If you are confused check with the sun
Carry a compass to help you along
Your feet are going to be on the ground
Your head is there to move you around

[repeat 1st verse]

Your feet are going to be on the ground
Your head is there to move you around
If wishes were trees the trees would be falling
Listen to reason
Season is calling

[repeat 1st verse]

If wishes were trees the trees would be falling
Listen to reason
Reason is calling
Your feet are going to be on the ground
Your head is there to move you around

So Stand (stand)
Now face North
Think about direction, wonder why you haven't before
Now stand (stand)
Now face West
Think about the place where you live
Wonder why you haven't

[repeat 1st verse]

Stand in the place where you are (Now face North)
Stand in the place where you are (Now face West)
Your feet are going to be on the ground (Stand in the place where you are)
Your head is there to move you around, so stand.

I try to look at magazine covers first off...& make sure if i glance elswhere...my eyes find an area of the store with no people...like say a clock on the wall or someone coming into the store far off in the distance...or I end up glancing at someone who is doing something with thier back turned to me to observe for a second or two...paying close attention for any movement that would indicate they are about to look my way....at which time i will yank my attention elsewhere either back to magazines or another space in the store with no people or a person that isent close enough to notice me to easily...basicly I keep my eyes on permanent rotation & from this to that..look at the person in front of me's stuff on the belt...pretend Im interested..until they happen to look my way of course. :)

Oh..I hate checkout lanes :)

Yep, I just try to distract myself aswell...just doing something really simple but that keeps your attention, like tapping my foot in a rhythm and concentrating on the rhythm, or counting the number of people wearing glasses that I can see, or the number of people wearing red...just something to stop you thinking about standing in a line of people!

I have a problem with my back so it's hard to find a good balanced posture, and be socially comfortable with it. I always feel weird or lobsided.

Usually with my weight on one leg, resting the other.

When I wait for my friend to walk to college in the mornings, I stand deliberately in the middle of the big path area and stare out over the fields.

It makes people feel uneasy and suspicious to see somebody standing doing nothing

and then when its my turn to pay...i hate it when the cashier sometimes even wants to talk to me...i mean i can barely go thru with simply standing in line let alone CONVERSATING with the cashier...But yeah I manage to reply but I sound like darth vader with nervousness.

Lines i'm ok with, i'll most definitely have my music in one ear and can just stand there and look around not looking too strange, rather than standing somewhere else just looking around. The only time i'm anxious is if i don't know what i'm ordering or have a time limit, as in the length of the queue (usually order stuff off the wall places). At that point i'll be panicking over what to buy and unable to make a decision because of it...hmm pretty much why i don't eat out.

I have in the past been shopping & was really done & ready to go through check-out...got there & seen that there were like 7 people waiting there in the only line that was open...so I decide that im not done shopping & go to the magazine section in the store to look at magazines until the number of people in line shrink to an acceptable amount in my mind....I also have pondered wether or not I really needed what all I came to the store for...been tempted to leave my kart & just say the hell with it & come back at a later date...or even go to another store..never have done that yet really...I always wait it out...or just force myself through it.

I only ever go shopping with my mom so I just lean on the shopping cart and talk to her until we've been served. She does all the conversing with the cashier and I just look straight ahead or at the clock on the wall.
