I feel worthless

I feel that no matter what I do, I can't achieve anything!

I'm doing a TEFL course online, but I keep thinking what happens if I fail like all the other times.

I'm not smart, I'm not very clever.

I keep thinking that my autism is dragging me down and I want to be normal for once, instead of fighting and over working.

I also keep getting flashbacks, nightmares and so on (I have traumatic stress disorder) I don't think that helps.

I just feel so worthless.

This is really interesting, because I've been having similar thoughts recently. After having had tons of therapy -- which I found misguided -- and after reflecting on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which I find plausible, I have some advice. It might sound a little unusual, and some people here may not like what I say.

You are having negative thoughts. Negative thoughts are part of being human. You don't have to change those thoughts. You don't have to train yourself or encourage yourself to have more positive thoughts.

However!

I encourage you to identify your values, the things you want to achieve. Even if it feels like you are not achieving them, try to achieve them anyway. There is value even in trying. Just keep trying. Let your values guide you. You will have negative thoughts, but just accept them and let them be. Follow your values, and recognize the negative thoughts as part of the landscape of the human soul.

That has to be the best advice anyone has ever given to me! Thank you

I have been in therapy but that never works, I have tried all kinds of therapy.

Thank you, and I mean it thank you. That has helped so much! :perfect:

You are welcome. I am glad that you like it. In my experience, the best approach to inner suffering is not to fight it but to let it be and then let positive life goals be one's guide. I recommend reading about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. There are several books. For OCD (if that's an issue; I don't know if it is or not), I recommend reading Edna Foa who advocates a similar approach.

You are not worthless. You are trying something.

I saw this, and I thought of you.

the key is not to give up, if you fail so what, you try again and there is nothing wrong with that, the good thing is that you will know more on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th.... time you try and succeed, everybody is smart on their own ways, there is no such thing as "i am stupid" if you don't know something it doesn't make you stupid, all you gotta do is learn it.
