I hate presentations too but you dont KNOW that the people were saying you suck behind your back. We do that....make assumptions without any investigation.

What kills me is when someone wants you to give a presentation without notes or a powerpoint. They did this to me in the military as part of some public speech training and it made me so freakin angry. Im not a politician or a stage performer....

It's actually quite peculiar, because at one point in time I was very comfortable giving presentations. So much so that I even improvised once. It all changed one year - 2000 - and I have never been able to pin-point why. On one such occasion I had to give a presentation for A-Level English, I was particularly nervous because it was a small group of people in a small room, so we were tightly packed. Needless to say I did not perform particularly well, I wouldn't even look up once! And when that wretched experience was over a rather generous peer had to chime in saying "Thank God that is over". I swear I could have strangled him, or maybe just give him a knife to plant in my back and help us both out. Over the years my performances and feelings towards presentations have been eratic, but I think the visualization I learned to do from the experiences has helped the most. Knowing the setting helps, knowing where to look (not at people but just behind the last row helps if you camt look anyone in the eyes). Planning breathing and pausing places in your speech so you can get thr balance right between speaking and engaging the audience, memorizing your speech and practicing it repeatedly until it's muscle memory. When under pressure we tend to revert to what is most ingrained, and that usually means avoidance. It's going to take some work to make this your natural reponse but well worth the effort, certainly not all that difficult. And then you learn to control your presence and amplify yourself through it. When all is said and done I doubt you were that bad and even if you were, I doubt you were anything like the wooden stooge I used to be. There must have been something you think wasn't so bad about it, if not now maybr later when you've had time to diffuse lol. I think it would be productive to review it at some point and think about what you would do differently and what you would retain. Anyway, I hope you feel better. I know you weren't looking for advice, but just couldn't help myself lol.
