I finally got my iontophoresis treatments working properly. I did two treatments per day for three days on the trot and on the fourth day I was completely dry. Since then I ve been doing treatments every other day ( 3-4 per week) for the last three weeks or so and my hands have been crispy dry.
My question is-am I overdoing it? Im worried that the iontophoresis will lose its effect ( like Driclor) if I do too much. Does anyone have any thoughts? :?:

No, It will never lose its effect. The best way to do it is as follows, Everyday for an hour (or twice for 30mins) and to that for 15-20 days. That is called the "Build Up" period. Different people respond differently for some it is 15days and some up to 30days before they notice a complete cessation in sweating. Perhaps you can consider your self "built up" after the number of treatments you have done, but keep in mind, being "built up" means that you wont start sweating like before in till about 6 weeks give or take 2 weeks. Anyways, after you are built up, and have done it for 15 days, you can then continue to do it for 30mins to an hour once every week. Once a week treatments are known as maintenance treatments and will keep your hands sweat free. If you continue with the maintenance treatments you will never need to build up again.

If you want to improve the efficeny of the device you can try adding baking soday or the water. Reports say this makes the water basic which is is said to improve the quality of the HH treatments. Probably the best and most effective thing you can do in addition to ionto though, is add Robinul/glycopyrrolate to the water. Cut a pill in half and place one half in each try and mix. You can find more about Robinul aka glycopyrrolate search the forum. Some people also like to use Driclor every night as well, but like you said, you are experiencing a lost in its effect. I think that though is on a person to person basis, I for one use it everynight anyway.

Hey cm123, thanks for the reply. How long have you been using iontophoresis? (Hope you dont mind me asking). Have you had relapses where you had to start from scratch?

I have never had relapses but have had to go through the build up stage again because I have neglected to do the weekly maintenance. In the simplest of terms this machine propels ions that are in the water into the pores on your hand, essentially clogging them, aslong as you keep them clogged you are never going to sweat, impossible to relapse or anything.
(As the low current passes through the area, the minerals in the water clog the sweat glands, limiting the amount of sweat released.(Which is why adding baking soda can help, adding more minerals).

If you have built up for 30days and still dont have the results you disire I would add Robinul to the water, studies on this forum have found that adding Robinul increases the effectiveness dramatically, you need to do less build ups and can last longer without the need of maintaince, although it is still important to get in the habit of weekly..... also you should notice the complete cessation of sweating.

Tip Tho, Avoid lotions and soaps through the day, after you have applied lotion on other parts of the body, wash your hands, and stay away from soaps, instead look for hand sanitizer(maybe even then washing it off after use with water...). I have found the moisture of these soaps and lotions to weaken the clogged pores and bring the sweating back faster.....
