It's not irrational

It's not irrational when you're objectively ugly.

(Beauty's not in the eye of the beholder -- that's just something some friendly people say to make ugly individuals feel better about themselves).

It's not irrational when every single time you expose yourself out there you notice disapproving looks and gestures from the passers-by you encounter.

(If only we could all be wearing an automatic counter that told us how many times we've been criticised throughout our day, be it just in thought or word. The "You're just magnifying things, making it all up" argument could be thrown out the window rather easily, then.)

It's not irrational when pretty much everyone is scared of speaking in public or being observed by a crowd.

(You want me to stop caring about what other people say and consider that to be my biggest problem. However, what differentiates me from the rest is not the fact that I care and they don't (they do too!!), but rather the fact that they don't think they are as laughable as I know I am.)

It's not irrational when you're living in a society which values outward appearance so much.

(You're urging me to create my own set of values regardless of what society dictates, but that just won't work. You don't get anywhere in life only by being loving and kind-hearted. You may think each and everyone of us is equally valuable, but life will show you we're not.)

Its human nature and it's survival of the fittest, In the old world it was the strongest, the most fearless and the ingenuitive who succeeded. In the modern world the fittest are the good looking, the wealthy and the confident charismatics. Maybe things will change again and the loving and kind hearted will come out on top :p

Are you sure that's what the OP needs to hear? You are basically affirming his negative opinions about himself.

Even if you're not the most handsome man in the world, confidence matters. What is it about you that make people stare at you on the street? Are you sure they're actually staring or is it just paranoia due to low self-esteem? They could be simply looking at you the same way you acknowledge there's a person close to you, without any sort of judgment (and even if they're judging, why does it matter? By thinking they're judging you, you're judging them yourself).

Maybe people look at you because you hunch and basically walk around as if trying to hide every aspect of yourself. That in itself makes people think "what's wrong with him/her?", but not necessarily in a bad way.
