So the other day I was in a situation of impending doom, as my mom was about to have some friends over for dinner. Needless to say, I was a bit stressed, so I decided to meditate a while in my room. I thought if I entered a social situation from a relaxed state it would help me stay calm for at least a couple of hours.

This didn't work at all actually, and I had one the worst nights ever as far as SP goes lol.

Anyways, my question is if anybody has had meditation of any sort help them with their SP related problems.

I try meditate about 40 minutes a day in 2 20 minute sessions. I find it really helps with my depression. And it helps me think more rationally about life. The best part, I think, is that when I'm meditating I have no anxiety at all!

I strongly recommend meditating it really really helps you get to know your true self better and you find out about feelings that you didn't even know you had. It's nice :)

at first i tried to just sit there and meditate but ite really difficult to maintain..
Instead I tried yoga, which helps you achieve that same state but in a more structured enviroment---
I would wake up and try those yoga shows on TV ...
It helped alot with concentration....
(but of course my lack of motviation led me to think i suck so i shouldn't even try... but you should!)

I just started meditating and i love it! It is really relaxing for me, i love having that on tap. Just starting reading about Buddhism also where i learnt about meditating and i love it. A whole religion where the end goal is peace of mind, thats something i like the idea of.

I've been meditating for the last year, on and off, and only a few months ago I realized that I wasn't meditating properly at all. Still can't get it right, even now... I've read that proper meditation requires years of practice, though. There's a clip on youtube of a guy called Ken Wilbur, who completely stops all brain wave activity through meditation.

How are you getting on with meditations, Freestylemonster? I´ve read a book from Paul Brunton on it and I liked the book (it´s really good), but still don´t know how to meditate, if I´m doing it right. Meditaition means getting rid of any thoughts, stop the flow of the thoughts. But I have no problem thinking about nothing, just sitting and staring. It´s like my head is empty which most of the time is. Sometimes it occurs to me my inside is so silent that I can almost hear the silence. The problem is if it´s not rather part of my illness, this brainwashed hollow feeling, and therefore if it´s worth loosing my time with trying to meditate..

I'm against it. At least, the empty mind kind of meditation.

Ironically the meditation I practice is 100% is completely the opposite. Contemplation, and I do it alot :D.

Mediation is trying to clear the mind. The idea is to be so completely at peace that your brain is completely still and not occupied by any thoughts. Though I enjoy sitting for an hour and contemplating as much as meditating. Depends on the mood I'm in during a day. Contemplation is specifically sitting or lying to think about specific things, rather than trying to clear your mind. It's mindfulness I suppose.
I'll stop rambling!
