Just got this from my sister and it caused me to think : " I miss you and wish you could be here on the Fourth of July. You fought for your country just like the Revolutionary soldiers did !"

Am I in the same league even though we fought almost 200 years apart ?

I believe that would be in your soul and only you would know that. Some people join armies for different reasons <3

the death-rate for revolutionary soldiers was way higher when in battle. and "we" lost more battles than we won. so those guys were some hardcore, suicidal mother*ckers.

however, in the current military, soldiers could die at any given second from suicide bombers, kids walking into the base to slit your throat while you're napping, etc. terror tactics make life extremely dangerous for modern soldiers 24/7, not just during battle. and the modern soldier does way more than the OG revolutionaries. endless patrolling, peacekeeping, out-reach efforts to foreign populace, and so on.

i'd say it's kind of even, all things considered

Happy Fourth of July Everyone! I hope that those with families out there fighting will find something to smile about. Better yet, I hope you get to talk to your loved ones today!
