I just find it stressful when I'm talking to someone I think is my friend on there and, after a few days they take ages to reply, as if you're not important any more and there's loads of other people they're talking too first (I know this is probably me being paranoid and not that reason though). Makes me feel more lonely than before.

You know, certain people have certain things they have to do. What if they're having a lot of school work to do? What if their jobs are stressful and they're relaxing? What if you message them at the wrong time (ie, when they are about to have dinner)?

There are a lot of 'what ifs' here, you can't just assume they're ignoring you and start hating their guts for no reason.

If they're not being as responsive as you'd like, just say something like "sorry, I suppose you're busy" or "I'm sorry if you're busy", or even ask them directly if they are busy or not.

Or you can always ask if they've lost interest and why. If the reasons are somewhat valid, then try to work on your flaws in order to become more interesting as an individual and thus have more things to talk about. It's hard to have anything to talk about when your days are dull and pointless, which is why we have to get out there and enjoy the time we're given.

I often find myself delaying responses in MSN chats if I'm busy with other stuff and it's nothing horribly important. Or I keep MSN running in the background and leave the computer for all sorts of reasons, and I can't say I've ever been arsed to toggle the green/red light thing to show whether I'm there or not. And at times I turn off a game or something and see multiple messages cluttering my desktop that popped up in the background. Plenty of reasons why people don't respond immediately really, but in most cases I dare say it's simply due to the other person being AFK or unaware.

when im gaming i will minimise the game screen once every 10-15 minutes and reply to all my msn messages then return to gaming again.

They probably sign off because they need to focus on what they're doing, in case they are busy. Often, if you're signed on MSN while working on something (let's say, an essay for college), MSN will distract you, and so you sign off without saying a word because if you do say anything you might risk getting into a conversation and losing notion of time.

It's not unusual.
