My Story

Hi there, basically about 3 years ago (17 at the time) i noticed in certain occasions i started sweating a ridiculous amount! Id always sweat more than the average person when doing sport but put it down to being overweight when i was younger. It then started happening more frequently and i then began fearing situations that hadn't happened. Didn't tell anyone for a while and just tried to hide it, eventually saw doctor and was given strong antiperspirant to roll on, helped under arms but then sweat came from different places.. basically sweating all over. Eventually was on prescription antiperspirant and tablets, wasn't sweating as much instead going bright red all the time. Eventually took beta blockers as well as doctors didn't want to give me anti-depressants cause of my age. Still sweating in groin/***, feet & hands where roll on wasn't as effective. A year later started getting therapy sessions, diagnosed with depression and mainly social anxiety. Went through CBT to be precise. This started helping a lot with confidence and eventually stopped taking any medication/ prescription drugs.
Have lived for the last year without taking any, still getting sweaty but trying not to let it effect me, not using 'safety behaviors' that helped short term but not long term.. Also did exposure, going in situations i thought i never could. Can go days when don't sweat much then others constantly sweating. Just started a new job this week where I'm an apprentice with 10 other guys and feel like that fear is getting stronger again ans starting to worry about situations that haven't happened yet. Sorry its so long tried to keep short and sweet but just wondering if anyone has/is going through similar and anything they know to try and help? Thanks!

You story is similar to mine.Apparently you suffer from hyperhidrosis and that causes with other obviously factors social phobia. My hh also started at 14 with armpits hh and after some monts, with back and chest sweating. As a consequence it affected my adolescence.Every night i was trying to think a possible solution.Last hear i went to a psuchologist who prescribed me an antidepressant[zoloft],in order to face the social aniety that i thought caused my sweating.Although it helped with anxiety very much,it did't reduce my sweating. Now i am 24 and i can tell i have managed to fight hh..Last Saturday i wore after many years a blue shirt without sweating. My weapon is DITROPAN.A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.I take 2 times a day on empty stomach each 12 hours and each time i wait 1.5 hour to eat.Try it!!

I was on ditropan and had some real problems with the side effects at the dose needed to make a difference. I have switched around to a few different things, one was periactin but it gave me a terrible rash on my scalp which is very rare but my luck but it worked great.
However, im on benztropine now and couldnt be happier. I am a chemist so my doc is very understanding and has tried me on everything i asked for. I have lived with hyperhidrosis so long that i want to spread the word on what has worked for me and what hasn't. BENZTROPINE has worked miracles. Periactin worked well but suffered some dry mouth before discontinuation. Dont have that with benztropine eventhough it is listed as a side effect. I believe that Periactin and Benztropine are closer to cures than ditropan because we are not sure how they work. DITROPAN Is a much more powerful anticholinergic but because periactin and benztropine act on specific histamines they seem to work without just shutting everything down and drying up every orifice you have. They both reduce catecholimines by a great deal as well which is what they test in your urine for when you go to an endocrinologist complaining about hyperhidrosis.......I could go on and on. PLEASE TRY EITHER
