New Job Update

Hey, so if you read my other thread, you'll know that I started a new job on Monday. If you're curious about how it's going, continue reading.

This place is so disorganized. Everyone just goes about working while I just stand there not knowing what to do with myself. I usually have to figure out how to make myself useful in anyway I can. I don't have someone actually training me. Sure, someone shows me some stuff here and there, but I haven't had a clear account of all my duties.
A big amount of my co-workers primarily speak Spanish and can't speak much English. I have been told to go with a Spanish speaking person and am left feeling frazzled when they're trying to tell me something that I don't understand so I have to stand there and say, "I don't understand", and make a face that indicates that I'm not clear on what they're trying to communicate.
On the first day I was immediately put into the role of first server on the second line. It was an extremely busy day, over 600 hundred people came for lunch.
I am so exhausted and sore that sitting is a major relief, even while biking home.
Oh, and guess what? After my first, long day of work, my bag was locked in the office, which had my house keys. They told me I could keep my stuff in there, and then they go and lock it after they leave work, leaving me in a horrible situation. My eyes hurt from my contacts and desperately needed to take them out but couldn't because my bag was locked away which meant I had no way to take them out. I had to work the next day. What a disaster, huh? I just wanted to go home. I wanted to sleep early. I wanted to be able to relax and then get ready in the morning. There was no way I could have slept in my contacts when they were already dry. I didn't want to have to go to work all bedraggled either.

(Said in a Totally Kyle Voice) Uhm, one time I was like tired and instead of being able to you know, go home and relax, I like, was locked out of my apartment for the night. And I was all, "wow, bummer. I have to like work tomorrow."

One of my friends let me stay in their dorm and they had contact solution and a makeshift contact case. I woke up at 6:10 in the morning to walk to my work to get my bag so I could be able to get ready at home. Well, on my walk I got lost because I'm not completely familiar with the area. My grandma picked me up and took me to my work and yeah, the door was still locked, so we waited a half hour and finally the office door was open. I'm so grateful for my grandma. She's awesome.
I have tomorrow off.
Thank da lawd

I wish I could give you a hug. I also have experience the same thing as you. I realised I always get lost when I went to a new place. I guess directions and I never come together. Remembered being late for my first day of my job and had to take a cab with only ten minutes left. I had an anxiety attack, I was sweating and I look like crap. In the end I didn't took the job because the place is just too far. You cycle to work huh? That is cool. Are you going to keep the job? I suggest to give it sometime because you may get use to it overtime. I always try to remind myself the first couple of days is the hardest.

Wow, that sounds harsh! I can't believe the person locked your bag in there! I probably would have hunted down a janitor and made them ope the door. Sorry you had such a rough time. Hope things get better. I'm rooting for you!

Starting a new job is probably the most difficult thing I have ever had to do in my life. Give it time and stick it out, it will only get easier once you adapt and become familiarized. Anyone who has done anything with their life has had to eat **** at some point. (Excuse my French)

I have hope that it can only get better.
I am bad with directions but my friend's dorm isn't in the same building as the university.
I can imagine the stress you felt! Yeah, I've been riding my bike to work. It's a two mile ride, which isn't bad at all.
I'm definitely going to give it time but also keep my eyes peeled for better jobs in the meantime.

Yeah, I told my co-workers it wasn't anything important, but half way home I realized my house key was in my bag. My friend called security for me but apparently they didn't have the key to open the office. They probably only had the keys to open the building itself.
I know I really complained but I needed to express myself. I'm hanging in there and have hope that it will get better.
Thanks. :)

Oh. Oh dear. They clearly have poor management, and most likely have a high employee turnover rate, which leads to people not bothering to invest much in new employees and becomes circular feedback.

I hope you can manage to stick it out, and I hope it gets easier to the point of being something that won't kill you to deal with every day.

I wish you luck.

Exactly. You articulated it perfectly. I'm definitely going to stick it out, at least until I find a better job. At least I can say I gained some experience out of this job.
I bought some insoles earlier today so hopefully my feet won't hurt as badly.

I use two pair of insoles in my boots. A cheap set under a good set inside my boots and i stand on concrete for 12-14 hours a day. Feels like walking on pillows

One of those nightmare days that fall from the rafters like a sandbag. You survived. Onward and upward.

True. I was supposed to have this weekend off. They wanted me to work tomorrow, along with Saturday and Sunday, making it a 60 hour week.

^60hrs !? So how did you manage to tell them that you did not wish to work those extra hours?
I often had a lot of trouble letting my boss know that I did not want extra hours on top of my full-time job, when I had one.:eek:h:

I still have to work an extra day, making it 50 hours :(
UGHHHHHH. When my boss told me I'd be working this weekend, I just said something like, "but I'm also working tomorrow. I thought I had the weekend off." and then she acknowledged that that would be a lot of days in a run so she said I could have tomorrow off since I was just an extra. STILL. I was told had had the weekend off. I really don't want to work an extra day. I'm probably going to call tomorrow to double check my schedule.
