New SP research!! Breakthrough will lead to new kindof meds!

Are Anxiety Disorders All in the Mind?
May 13, 2008
The study, which was reported in the May issue of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, compared densities of elements of the serotonin and dopamine neurotransmitter systems in the brains of 12 people diagnosed with social anxiety disorder
"Our study provides direct evidence for the involvement of the brain's dopaminergic system in social anxiety disorder in patients" "It demonstrates that social anxiety has a physical, brain dependent component."
Recent research has indicated that social anxiety disorder might be related to an imbalance of the neurotransmitter serotonin ..

Also... evenmore interesting...
Trust drug may cure social phobia ...
Brain scans showed the hormone(oxytocin) lowered activity in the amygdala - a region which is overactive in social phobics.

Drug trials are under way and early signs are promising say the scientists.
We found that oxytocin has a very specific effect in social situations. It seems to diminish our fears.
The researchers found that oxytocin reduced activity in two regions which act as natural "defence barriers".
The researchers found that oxytocin reduced activity in two regions which act as natural "defence barriers".
The amygdala has been found to be extremely active in the brains of sufferers of social phobia.

"The reported oxytocin finding could provide a bridge for potential clinical applications."

hmmmm ... sounds good.. but i guess its the waiting game...

Re: New SP research!! Breakthrough will lead to new kindof m

New drugs freak me out so even if it were out now I wouldn't want to take it. It needs to be at least 10-15 years old before I take a drug.

Since so many people have anxieties I suppose that some day,as long as sufficient profits are to be made,a cure will be invented some day.

I want Oxytocine, do you know where to get it (but making sure it´s not a scam). I wish it was on prescription for social phobics/autism, or is it only for women in labour?

funny.. oxytocin is the chemical involved in sexual relations among other things.

instead of takin the drug can we instead just have sex?

for a social phobic that might be hard anyway.

what of the people who have a shortage of sex, do they develop social phobia because of this?

The question is, if it wasn´t fake. That´s why I´m afraid to order just anything over internet. I´m going to try to persuade my GP to prescribe it for me. It should be available as nasal spray or intravenous infusion.

*sigh* here's a review of the liquid trust product.

Liquid Trust - A Brutal Review of Liquid Trust Pheromone Spray

Just reading it made me sad, the fact that I'm missing out on life simply because I have never had successful close relationships growing up.

How do you naturally increase oxytocin levels? How can you alter your levels of oxytocin by yourself without the use of such products, or even needing to have conversation with someone, or the opposite sex? How can you fake such a thing?

If you've never had a close relationship before to begin with, how is it possible to form one in the first place, because you have no experience of such bonding before, to even begin creating one? How can you know what to even look for?

edit: some reviews are different.

Maybe liquid trust isn't as good as the other homeopathic oxytocin booster one... but even homeopathy is usually just placebo.

"Prairie voles with oxytocin receptors form lifelong monogamous bonds, whereas other varieties of voles without the receptors mate promiscuously."

What does this say about human relationships?

I went to GP today but as I expected, he isn´t going to prescribe it for me. He never did it, doesn´t have experience with it etc. I said then I´ll be the first to try out, but he just said no, it´s only for women in labour. Also, that it could have some side effects (which I don´t care about in this case). Shame the doctors are not more open-minded. I´d like to try it just to know how it feels (in case it really works), but am afraid to order it from somewhere in internet because it can be fake. I wonder if someone else wanted to try to ask his GP, maybe you´ll be more succesfull.
