Hey !

from Windhoek in Namibia. (so also not quite Jozie or even ZA but close enough).
I'm not entirely sure whether I do in fact suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder, since I frequently have no issue with being amongst other people and having a jol and being myself, but I have periodic fears of directly encountering strangers. . . you know .. like meeting new people, and making friends.
Especially the latter because it seems to take me ages for people to get to trust me even though I always have positive intentions when meeting anybody, so I don't know what it is.. perhaps something in my body-language. . . Confused
Anyway .. I'm just wondering something about CBT.
I understand that its creating new thoughts in your mind which will consequently create the right emotions about yourself so that your anxiety (emotion) fades away. Isn't it just a way of using affirmations and goal-setting techniques ?
Why then use a therapist ?
Maybe I'm all wrong in my assumptions ...

Its great to see fellow South/Africans here .. at least as faceless identities we don't need to worry what others could think of us (even though they don't ! ever ! they're thinking of themselves.) . the magic of the internet .

lots of love

Yippy, another contact! Hope we can chat for a while.

I will start. I live in Boksburg and work in the Insurance industry doing admin. Not the most exciting nor challenging job, but it pays the bills. I am looking out to start a new career, but SA will always be a factor when embarking on this path. But I think its time to move on. With no promotional prospects, there is no reason to stay!

Weekends are always quiet, not very exciting - I think we all imagine it should always be one big party.Laughing I mostly spend it at home but I use going to, the gym as my outing. Its a life lline! Since developing a back problem, muscle spasm which I am recovering quiet nicely from, sporting activities are out for the moment. Judging by how my back is doing, I should make a full recovery, touch wood!

I see you have recently joined. I registered in Nov 2007, but started reading and communicating in Dec 2007. It opened my mind. I could relate and it felt good still does especially when somebody mentions issues/experiences you are facing as well and could never put a name to it. Its enlighting, you see yourself through the eyes/words of others. Sometimes the hopelessness of ever beating SA saddens me. The road to recovery is hard and rocky. It shows the tremendous courage we will need to overcome. But I am hopefull!

Let me know how things are going.

No, I live on the outer edge of Gauteng, about 40 min from Boksburg.

What is a party?

I sent you a PM.
