I'm not sure if this is the same for most people, but for the past few weeks I've realised that my HH is only present for part of the day, rather than 24/7.

Sometimes I don't sweat at all for a whole day, or possibly a couple of days, other times it's the complete opposite - I have the HH for a few days non-stop. Usually it's a few hours a day though.

I have just returned from Spain a few days ago, and while I was there, for the whole week, even though the temperature was reaching mid-30s, my HH wasn't there at all for the whole week. After returning to the UK, it has been intermittent.

I'm not sure if this is normal for this to happen, but I cannot think of what is causing it. My lifestyle is quite varied, and I try and do different things. I find that my sweating is at its very worse when I go into the local town centre, however when I go to other towns, I am quite often fine.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

hey,
my sweating varies due to my environment and if i'm relaxed or if it is cool - i hardly sweat outside at night time. sometimes i find my hh calms down literally when i'm calm. when you were on holiday maybe you felt relaxed to be away from the uk as home reminds you of your struggle with hh, and maybe being in a hot country made you subconsciously feel like it didnt matter if you sweated cos it would be considered normal there as it's always hot and it's only natural to perspire. i've found that when i'm in relaxed situation where i feel comfortable and havent got to worry about people seeing my hh, such as inside my house or when i'm with my family my sweating significantly reduces. i'm not sure if this is the same in your situation, but as you mentioned going to your local town makes you sweat again then it's just due to social anxiety sparking off the condition. i think it's everything to do with psychological reasons. i watched a programme on how going to spas in spain, having a healthier diet and more exercise aswell as having acupuncture and mudbaths etc can make your hh as well as other conditions go away. (http://uktv.co.uk/style/item/aid/538612 )
in my opinion it all depends on how long you have had hh, because when i first had it when i hit puberty i didn't have it that much at 1st and it increasingly got worse over the years.

In my experience I don't have any days that HH is absent, no matter where I go. At the same time, the levels of HH varies through the day a lot.

Basically, my HH gets worse with any activity (mental or physical). This ranges from nothing at all when I'm at home watching TV with nothing on my mind to moist when I'm typing this or in class and to severe when for instance I know I have to shake hands. When I'm playing sports now in recent years also the axillary and truncal sweat kick in, moreso than in a normal situation (I know so because I didn't have this till a view years ago). Strangely, the palmar HH gets less a little with physical exerise. Still, all things considered both through physical and physiological means the HH gets worse.

Also, I used to only have palmoplantar HH, but now after recent years it inflicts other parts as well, which I really don't understand (I mean, what makes it develop???), and which is really frustrating.

I've noticed that some days I don't sweat at all. Normally if I'm at home on the weekend I don't sweat. I think it might be due to the fact that I don't really worry about it when I'm at home and I'm more relaxed altogether.
I also had the same effect on holiday as well. I'm due to go on holiday on friday and on previous trips, I've hardly sweat at all.

Thanks for the answers, interesting range of responses.

Very weird how this all seems to work, I've found that nothing has worked for me (antiperspirants, iontophoresis, odaban and loads of other things), but sometimes the HH isn't there, sometimes it's mild and other times it's severe.

I can do some physical activities with hardly and sweat, but walking up hills brings out severe HH. I sweat but I'm not out of breath doing that.

Has anyone had this investigated by a doctor or specialist to find the exact cause?

I have been in Spain to this year and the HH is much, much better. This year i traveled whith my ionto. So it was almost like I didnt suffer from HH.

I have also been in thailand, same thing.

Before when I traveled, I didnt use the ionto. I did sweat in my hands/feet but not as much as i do back home. Here is it colder, which is fine but I sweat like hell indoors when its hot.

I think that when I am in hot contries I sweat more all over the body so my brain tells the body not to sweat so much in my hands/feet.?

Its all very confusing, its annoing to not have a straight answers to this ridickelas diseas.

So your sweating was more general rather than just in specific places?

Yes you could maybe say it like that.

But before the ionto, I did have some sweat attacks on my hands/feet when traveling.

And I did also have some sweat attacks in Thailand, but there I was using the ionto.

So I was sweating really bad one day all over the body, and I did almost always sweat on my face.I do notice that I sweat easier from other places on my body on the latest years.

When I was in Thailand it was the hotest time of the year so almost everybody did sweat but maybe I did sweat generally a little more than others.Specialy one day at a discotek whith NO aircondition or wind.

When I think about it I dont think it was air at all in that discobar,so my sweating did go mad.

I drank a lot of beer on that holiday to and think that did a reaction to my body at the end.

My girlfriend that was whith me, had never seen someone sweat as much as me that night. But lucky me she is very understanding about the HH thing and do not make a drama about it.I didnt care so much my self, but F..... this diseas still.I usaly get mad about it,but I give a damn some times.

So does ionto help you then? How long does the effect last of it?
