Does anyone else feel T.v can be a cause for Depression? Sometimes i watch t.v like Battlestar Galactica and even thou they are at war and lots of people dyin i find myself kinda jealous because they have meaningful lives where as i live a pretty crap life.

I have SA so i stay in a lot and tend to watch tv which i think is making me depressed, Well it aint making me depressed its just making my depression worse. Sometimes i wonder if im capable of returning to normal. Maybe this is how its meant to be for me, You know some people become Astronauts or Engineers and other just waste away maybe i drew the short straw and unfortunately im destined to waste away.

In one of the psychology classes I've taken, I've heard of research where they had people watch T.V and meanwhile monitored their brain chemistry. What they found was that even among certain people without a history of depression, after a couple hours of watching T.V their brain chemistry starting to resemble that of someone with serious depression. I can't remember exactly the cause, but the most unhealthy part turned out to be the commercials (So it's a bit different with movies). I try not to watch more than an hour at a time if I can. What's helped me the most with depression has actually been exercise. Just 20 minutes of the treadmill everyday gives me a lot more energy. So any kind of exercise you can manage would be my advice.

The news makes me depressed but sometimes i have to watch it because i need to know what's happening in the world. Reality tv such as Big brother, Xfactor, Dancing on ice etc makes me want to slash my wrists!
