Im totaly not discounting that smoking weed could perhaps help people with anxiety and other problems, different medication works for different people. But my own personal experience with it has been awfull,i would actualy say it along with other things caused me the severe anxiety and everything else i have.

I started smoking it when i was about 15,which was probaly dangrous as at that age your still developing. But anyway yeah.. i smoked it for years and the longer i smoked it,gradualy the more introverted i got... i kinda just withdrew into myself.I was already socialy awkward and depressed... but i really think smoking weed was my way of coping at the time...but it was escapism and instead of dealing with my problems i used weed as a crutch.Which is why i think when i eventualy quit when i was 18 i practicaly had a breakdown... and my sp hit me hard as id just been masking my problems.

Anyway sorry for the life story Laughing but weed caused me so many problems and i just wanna share my personal experience with it as you know i never believed the stuff i got told at school about it being dangrous.I was probaly gonna get social anxiety even if i didnt smoke weed as i think some people are suseptable to certain things.. but it deffo made it worse and was probaly the trigger.ANd even if it does help... wouldnt it just be like having a drink? As its not really a long term thing..it doesnt really cure the underlying causes just takes away the symtoms for its duration.

Anyway sorry silenttype im not discountig what your saying Smile im not disagreeing with you either thats just my view.As ive said.. ya know one medication... some anti depressants.. can practicaly cure people while in another person they can actualy make the problem worse ect.

Thanks for the reply danfalc22.

I must say that I've heard this story before, and it is kind of a paradox to what I'm trying to say. Marijuana very well could have caused you to become more introverted as you became dependent on it.

However, I'm not trying to discount your personal experience, but just hear me out. I firmly believe that social phobia is created by the environment you're raised, including the genetic factor of having an introverted parent or guardian to look up to. As you said, marijuana was in your life during your teenage years, when most social phobia cases first show their faces. Again, not trying to discount your experience, but could it be that you blamed marijuana for what was really an environmental or genetic cause? To elaborate, were their any signs of social phobia in you before u started smoking?

Again, thanks for your reply, as I like to discuss both sides of the idea of cannabis as medicine. I'm just trying to figure this whole thing out just like you and I'm just trying to offer you a different perspective on your story. I hope we get to dive into this a little more in the future.

Peace

No, it would not be just like having a drink. Alcohol is a physically and mentally addicting substance. Marijuana is not. That's the whole idea of this. Marijuana is the safest alternative to alcohol, benzodiazepines, and sleep aids that a lot of people on this forum use quite a bit.

Wow. You must not have read those sites very well. None of the sites I provided state marijuana, by way of vaporization or ingestion, is bad for you.

As for synthetic THC, otherwise known as Marinol, most people who have used it say that it is too strong for their liking. I don't know where you got this information...

As far as cognitive function goes, you may need to check your own, because your post was one big run-on sentence and you misspelled several words. That's the main reason I'm not going to listen to your post, but if you could give some credible sources which say the same I'd be glad to look at your argument.

Does the term medical marijuana mean anything to you people? A true therapy with marijuana would be to smoke before a social situation, not during a social situation. Medical marijuana for anxiety is intended to be smoked on your own, prior to a social event. What you people are describing are instances of recreational drug use. There is a big difference.

You also need to find a good anti-anxiety strain of cannabis. Most dealers don't know what they have, and that is a good part of having cannabis dispensaries, which are employed with people who know about each strain they are selling. Most Indica varieties are better for us than Sativas, which can, in fact, increase anxiety to an inexperienced user, due to the heavy head buzz involved. Indica strains, however, provide more of a body buzz that is especially helpful for anxiety and getting to sleep at night.

Hope that cleared things up a bit.

Peace

you have a very patronizing tone.

i have smoked it before social situations, during, after, backwards, upside down and i am speaking of my own personal experiences. but yeah, maybe the strain makes a difference. and needless to say, i'm all for total legalization (no medical reason necessary). what a waste of my tax dollars.

Sorry, dottie. I apologize for patronizing you. It just seems that most replies in this thread so far have been trying to bring down my personal beliefs. I figure that makes it ok to debate others' beliefs too.
