Hello,
For the people who are overcoming SA/shyness and having some success, where do you meet people? It's hard not to break shyness when you stay in your room all day. Im unemployed and in a new city ( Not that i ever had friends/relatonships before), so what is the best way to dig myself out?

For those of you in school, realize you won't have it again where you are surrounded by such a diverse population of people your age. Just look for someone who looks friendly, ask them if they want to study for the next test. it's much easier to approach someone knowing that if you are rejected, it is b/c they are not interested in studying, not b/c they think you are an awkward loser.

Hi, Guest.

I bet you there are support groups in your area. I wonder if there are any websites that could give you that information. Hummmm....Let me check. I'll get back to you!

Hi again.

I'm back. Well, I have a problem. I don't know what country you are from if you are from USA then you can go to the following website:http://therapist.psychologytoday.com/rms/prof_search.php. This will give you a list of all support groups within a certain radius (1 mile to 50 miles) of your home/work locations. I suggest you use the "Custom Search" option so that you may pick a therapsit that is more suited for you.

I'll look around more but tell me first what country you are from and the we can work from there! Very Happy

Hi, i was the original poster.
Thanks for your help, sorry wasnt clear, i didn't necessarily mean support group/ therapist, although i am looking for one. I just meant where do shy people make friends in general, especially in a new town. Any success stories?

I have the same problem - where do I go to meet people?!?!

Well, Im getting up the nerve to go to an tennis club open house in a week, so I hope that will be fun.

Another thing you could try is go to your local rec centre and see if there are any clubs to join, such as tennis or volleyball, etc. Or maybe even take a night course.

Hi, for those of you wanting to find support groups i would suggest the following.

UK - http://azure.bbboy.net/sauk (the one I use, look at the meeting section)

US - http://www.socialanxietysupport.com/ (not sure how to navigate this one, but know they do meets)

Also you may try www.meetup.com

Hi

Try meeting other shy people at martial arts. A lot of people try it to increase there confidence. Also consider attending church, joining a local library, bushwalking club, in fact any type of club. Even a singles club. Forget the club and pub scene though. Unless you are good at superficial conversation. Finally, use your skills to do something you enjoy and are good at. Forget about meting someone and focus on enjoying your life as a person single or not... People are generally attracted to others when they are content with their life but open to meeting others. At least that is my experience. I found that when I was least interested in meeting others, that others were more interested in meeting me. It sounds weird. I know
