Hi, I'm a bit confused about what OCD is, how to tell if you have it, and why it happens. I have been called OCD many times before, but I've never completely thought I've had it. So I'm here just to make sure.

I have done a little research on it and found that I don't have the general symptoms like increased anxiety, but some things fit me to a tee. Some things just have to be "right" for me, triangles are always better with a right angle, things have to be even, and patterns have to emerge. Counting is also a big thing with me, well it's not so much counting as pacing. When walking down the sidewalk, if I'm not distracted, I'll count 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4 two steps for every block, step on the line every 2nd. Four would have to be my magic number. I get flustered when the size of the blocks changes and I can't fit the two steps in them.

Music is something that I love, I play the trumpet. However, if the music I play isn't in 4/4 time, I find it less enjoyable.

These kinds of things havn't caused a negitive impact on my life, but I'm afraid if I don't spot it now it might. I'm I worrying too much, or might I have some small form of OCD?

you might have a minor form of ocd. if it hasn't interfered too much it might not be a whole lot to worry about, but if you have doubts it's always good to get some help. however, i cured my ocd completely without any professional help or meds, so i'm sure you can too. keep the faith

ps - i have an odd question. is it hard to listen to progressive music at all? the only reason i ask is because time signatures fascinate me... and i've never heard of a time signature ocd. consider my mind boggled Very Happy

It's not so much listening to music, as playing it. For example I know how to play the trumpet so when I'm playing with sheet music its just a constant beat in my head sometimes meaning I play when the rest of the people have stopped, but I don't know how to play the piano so when I play that without any sheets or anything I don't count, it's just the tune. But perhaps the most aggravating thing for me is ticking, just the same tick over and over. Drives me mad. The thing is I can't get to sleep unless there's a tick TOCK. Ticking is like slashing the tires of my sanity but tick tocks are very soothing.
