To whoever to may concern,
I know this is a bit crazy...but i am afraid to cut my hair. For as long as I have been alive (cept when i was a wee little one and me mums cut it) i have not cut my hair. I am now 24 years old and have never gotten a haircut. Of course i have been to the hair dressers before, but as soon as i walk in the door and see the huge sharp scissors and how the hair dressers cut while talking and not even really paying attention...i FREAK out! what if they nip my ear....im getting anxious just writing this!!!!
needless to say im in dire need of a hair cut, its several feet long
any help is welcome, i just want to be normal!!!

cheers!
Melinda

I can totally see where you are coming from. I have a very similar problem, though I do get my hair cut occasionally, but only when it really gets out of control. Once when I was having cut, the hairdresser poked the back of my neck with the tip of the scissors and the blood got all over my clothes. It didn't bleed that much, but after that, I haven't been able to look at hairdressers the same way. I now only get my hair done by my aunt, who is a professional.

I hope you can overcome this fear of yours.

Hey, chicks with long hair can be pretty sexy [lol no, I'm not hitting on you, I'm only 18]. Anyway, maybe you're just a little anxious... believe it or not, that's pretty normal... at least for me anyway. I used to be that way when I was little, couldn't tell you how I outgrew it but apparently I did somehow. Getting my hair cut was like my worst nightmare for a few years!

But needless to say, you're not abnormal. Expose yourself little by little to what you're afraid of... you'll eventually lose the habit of fearing something that's perfectly safe. Good luck!

I dont like people cutting my hair either. Im afriad the hairdresser will make it look horrible and short on purpose so i look even more worse.

I can't offer too much advice unfortunately..
But maybe try cutting it yourself? I cut my own hair all the time because hairdressers always cut too much off. It's fairly easy to do.
Also, if you're just going in for a trim and your hair is in fact really long, they shouldn't really need to cut close to your neck or anything so therefore shouldn't nip you.
Good luck

Dont be anxious. I completely understand what your feeling. I only got the guts to go to the hairdressers 4 months ago (im 20... if i can do it you can!!).

You are COMPLETELY NORMAL!!

Get your haircut as soon as they open because they are generally empty at that time which helps a lot.

Work out what you want before you go so you can tell them specifics and it will ease the stress.

You're just gonna have to pull the trigger on this one. You have to force yourself to get the haircut. If it turns out bad, facing that anxiety head on will do more good than you know. You won't beat anxiety by avoiding it. You beat it by looking it right in the eyes and saying "you don't control me anymore"

best of luck.
