i was just wondering since im new to this whole panic attack and anxiety thing. but i already had an EKG checked on my heart and other stuff. blood work, my lungs, and i am perfectly healthy. but my question is, is it normal to have a slightly faster heart race everyday or slighter pounding that would last all day, or mostly at night, even if im on medication for anxiety?

its actually just been happening for the past three days. like this constant on and off thing of my heart poudning slightly harder. it doesnt feel dangerous just actually really annoying,

im taking Alprazolam, which i think works similar to Xanax, and i know that it doesnt cause the heart to race or beat a little harder. i was wondering if there was an anxiety medication that can actually control the heart rate too?

i realized that there are so many darn pills out there!!!!!!!!

im hoping that this is a temporary thing and will go away. its only been two weeks since my anxiety or panic attacks have been happening.

i use to suffer with social anxiety but overcame that. but i also realized that i have always been a person that worries. but anyway, if you can give me advice, that would be great! thanks to everyone out there!

during the first week of school in september i noticed my heart was beating harder a faster all day. (i was pretty anxious about school)

i hope it goes away for you too.

propranolol can help slow down your heart rate, ask your doctor about it.

Hi, i started getting anxiety symptoms about a year ago and my doc prescribed Inderol (propranolol/beta-blockers, whatever you wanna call it) for anytime i was gonna encounter a stressful situation. I sort of didn't want drugs cos SE's, dependence etc and cos i think the best way to beat this is your own thinking. Anyway this is a heart medication that has ONLY physical effects of lowering heart rate, basically lowering the whole fight/flight response and no side effects. You can pretty much take them when you want ( i have about 20mg an hour before a stressful event and it lasts maybe 4 or so hours that i can tell). You definitely notice the slower heart rate so i recommend this definitely. This is only for acute use but i think you may be able to get longer lasting or slow release ones that you take once daily in the morning and last all day.

Anyway ask your doc but sounds like this would be perfect for your situation. Hope this helps! Good luck.

Alprazolam is FDA-approved for the short term treatment of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia. Alprazolam is very effective in preventing moderate to severe anxiety, essential tremor, panic attacks and other types of convulsive behaviors. Physicians who elect to prescribe alprazolam for longer than 8 weeks should be aware that continued efficacy has not been systematically demonstrated beyond 8 weeks use as tolerance to alprazolam's effects may occur after 8 weeks and necessitate discontinuation or physician-directed dose escalation.

If your heart is thumping all the time try looking at what you eat. If you have low blood sugar it can cause your heart to pound if you eat something with a high sugar or carb content,
I found cutting out hi carb foods, sugars, caffeine & alcohol calmed things down a bit.
I have had the ambulance out twice in the past as I thought I was going to have a heart attack but now with a change in diet I can control it better.

I started having panic attacks 6 months ago. I was put Luvox (anti-depressant) and on Xanax, that helped with the anxiety, but it also made me drowsy and a bit stupid, I came off that after about 2 months and I was worried about that. I get occasional fast heart beat, and I find that when you're in that fast/pounding heart beat, the more the think about it the longer it takes for it to go away. The first time I had a bad panic attack I was admitted to hospital and had the full look over and I am fine, it's all mental! this was before the meds.

I know two other people who have been through this, and they're over it, they can relate to me with the fast/pounding/palpitations, they went through it too, and it's very annoying, they did stress to me that it will go away, it will just take time.

I think you need to trust your doctor, and give yourself time. I have been on the anti-depressants for 6 months and it's only now that I can see the difference it's starting to make.

Yes it can be permanent. But forget the medication.

Medication solve the symptoms they are not the cure for your panic attacks. They have a psychological explanation.

How to solve them?.

ACCEPT THEM, do not focus on your panic attacks, do not try to explain them nor analyze them. Why?:

1.- You know that you won't die (you probably had some panic attacks already and you find you didn't die).
2.- You know it is all in your head.
3.- You know they are symptoms of fears that you have in your head.

So what to do?, accept them, and try to do something else, play video games, read a book, come to the forums and read opinions (do not focus on the panic attacks opinions thou), write something, play sports, cook, clean, watch tv, talk with people, etc, etc. You know you won't die, so why to focus on them?

The next step is psychotherapy, or self-help (CBT). Find your worries and realize how real are they.

When I notice my heart racing I slow it down by doing deep breathing from my gut. I'll inhale by expanding my belly, then hold that breath for a sec or two, exhale and hold for a sec or two, then inhale again.
