I was wondering if anyone who has taken anti-depressants has felt like they were not as mentally sharp as they were without the medications, whether a short term or long term effect.

And does anyone feel like they are desensitized in some way, or perhaps don't have as deep emotions?

Thanks.

OMG yes! I've taken antidepressants of different kinds on and off for the past 10 years or so, and I feel like my brain has turned into mush. My memory is shot to hell, I'm forgetful and I feel like I have just gotten stupid. I wasn't this way before I started taking the antidepressants. Also, when I am on medication I feel like a zombie. The last one I took was Citalopram, and it was like I had no emotions at all. I wasn't sad, I wasn't happy, I just was. And the really sucky thing is that I never experienced any improvement while taking the meds, I just got all the side effects Evil or Very Mad .

Hey There,

Well, i'm on 100 mg of Zoloft and i can say that i don't feel abnormal, but i don't feel normal either. I think it is important to understand that these antidepressants serve to change the chemical balance in our brains, the general idea is that this one drug should be able to change everything and make us better;

But bringing into this the human (variable) aspect - we come to realise that seeing as though every persons chemical makeup is different, these drugs will react differently with different people.

I can say i don't want to take these drugs, as i still seem to have anxiety and depression with them anyway.. Id rather roll a big fat joint and sit down and laugh with my fiance . . . Different things seem to help different people.

.. hehehe ... im not saying marijuana is good, as it's not, totally screws up the chemical balance of my brain.. even if it is kinda fun for a while, long term effects are no good...

Cigarettes seemed to help.. but they are a carcinogenic... Life's a beach eh Wink
