I have a real deep-seeded fear of tornadoes. Tonight, they started popping up in my area, and I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown! Honestly, being killed isn't as bad as the hell it puts me through. Shocked

I guess it's quite normal to be deathly afraid of something that kills people at random. Our lives are full of things like that, it's a wonder any of us get out of bed at all. Down here in Miami, we also have to deal with hurricanes, deadly lightning, alligators in fresh water, sharks in salt water, traffic from hell, etc.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) makes us think / feel that people are deadly dangerous too. Some people are dangerous (criminals, drunks, etc.), but SAD makes us equate all people with risk. With Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) we can notice these thoughts / feelings and just let them be.

Surprised It's too bad you're afraid of Tornadoes! I looooove them! But then, we don't get any around here. I love them cause they're so powerful and scary looking, and daunting, and the sounds they make. I hope you can get over your fear, and see the beauty in nature. Smile

What is it about the tornado that scares you?

I actually love storms. Tornadoes are obviously scary but you just gotta be smart when theyre around and theres nothing to be afraid of.

Peace

Haha, RedRibbons. That made me chuckle.

I think storms and stuff like that are pretty cool. But I think once you've experienced an actual tornado almost htting your house, then you might feel differently about thinking there cool.

So im just saying, its pretty understandable why un-cool would be afraid of tornados. I know i sure as hell would be.

knowing firsthand what its like to be in a tornado i can safely say they are anything but "cool". i was inside a convenient store and i looked outside the door and seen what appeared to be a "black cloud" close to the ground, then all of a sudden it went right over top of the store pushing the doors all the way inward, flipping over cars. i was terrified and i ran into the stores cooler(i figured it would be the safest place Rolling Eyes ) it was over within 1-2 minutes, but VERY scary......you know its strange you say that because my mom says she has horrible reaccuring nightmares of tornados, she doesn't have a fear of them when shes awake, weird i guess.......

Oh my gosh! I'm sooo scared of tor-nadies!!! Every time spring rolls around I get super nervous! And I dream about them all spring long. Especially on stormy nites! If it's stormy out, I will watch the clouds and look for circular movement. I saw this show once called Tornado Chasers and these people were crazy! They LOVED the storms and drove around like mad hatters trying to get up close to one! Shocked
