Hey guys. I was wondering if anybody has taken St. John's Wort for depression. My old psychologist told me to get it because I was about to go off of my mom's insurance plan. I was fine without meds for a while, but now I think I might need something. I'm not paying all that money for perscription drugs! At the same time I have a real hard time beliving something over the counter will work. Anyway I'm probably gonna pick it up next time I'm at the store. The only thing is that it's supposed to help mild depression and my depression is major so I' thinking it's gonna be a waste of money. Let me know if anybody has tried it. Oh, and if it works how long does it take to kick in? Thanks

I take alot of supplements for alot of different reasons, like magnesium, gingko biloba, fish oil, and a multi vitamin, and all that shit's straight as hell and I love vitamins and suppliments because I feel like I am fufilling more of my nutritional requirements than is reasonably achieveable within the confines of the over-processed, sugar and sodium ridden american diet.

I do alot of research about different things that I take or have thought about taking, and one of those things I checked out was st johns wort. I heard good AND bad things about it online, but it was reccomended to a friend of mine who said she was taking it. I tried it for about a week, and it just made me feel sluggish, stupid and therefore unhappy. I threw the shit out, and never took it again. I wouldn't reccomend it, but your body might handle it differently.

I'd say that some suppliments to think about for deppression would be magnesium, fish oil pills (or if you think that's too gross you can also use flax seed oil for omega 3 and omega 6 monounsaturated fatty acids) and a B-Vitamins suppliment (b vitamins play a vital role in the molecular processes of the brain).

I tried it for 2 weeks and it did nothing for my depression or SA. However, once I stopped I went through some mild withdrawl for a couple days.
